Well first of all, thanks for this wonderfull project! Amazing job i must say. I actually never played FS2 before but ive seen friends play it and such (funnily, the graphics made me not giving it a chanse myself) and so i could hardly believe my eyes when i installed this improvment.
I encountered a problem though and i figured this would be the best place to ask for help...see, the thing is, I cant seem to be able to go reverse with my ship... even tho i mapped the function correctly...
I have a logitech gamepad and it works to 100% on every other game ive tried so far...old and new... and it is correctly recognized by your project in all ways...even force feedback works as well as all other commands except reverse. Also, i have come to think its not really a problem with my gamepad becouse, weirdly, in the first training mission when the instructor tells me to go reverse and when i press the assigned button the ship wont react at all and yet he says "good" and continiues....
also, i noticed the default control for the keyboard for reverse (z) also doesnt work...
or maybe...it do work and its just me who doesnt understand its function... its suposed to make me go backwards right? and as well "brake" right? it doesnt do any of this. If the ship is standing ccompletely still and i press it... *nothing* moves.
I hope you understand my explanation... english is not main language hehe :) thanks peoples!
edit: since this board seems to be somewhat hi-tech I should maybe tell in advance a few things that might be helpfull... heres my install procedure:
I didnt have FS2 at all so i used the automatic installer to download the retail game as well...I choose to install all components of retail FS2 and then all the improvements and none of the mods... and i let the installer download and install to a completely empty folder "FreeSpace2"
As such, i couldnt install the official patch before I installed FSOpen but i did completely assume that the installer did this for me...would be weird otherwise... anyway... afterwards, there were no errors - just a reminder that i needed OpenAL... so i got it and installed it.
in the launcher i put openGL for video output since i heard direct3d isnt supported...I checked "use big textures" and graphic setting (on that page) to "high" (highest) AA to 4 and AF to 16 ... and ehm what else...sound is set to software.... and here are my commands to the executable:
D:\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_3_6_9.exe -mod mediavps -spec -glow -env -jpgtga -mipmap -nomotiondebris -2d_poof -missile_lighting -dualscanlines -targetinfo -orbradar -rearm_timer -ballistic_gauge -3dwarp -warp_flash -snd_preload
if you need more info just ask :)

that only woks in BtRL. freespace physics don't allow that, unless you hacked in some new physics values. -joshua- made a physics mod that allows reverse.

Isn't there some kind of a partial reverse in TBP, too? If you keep the decelerate button pressed long enough, the ship will start to go backwards. Or somethin'. Shiver me timbers!
Also, d2freak,
:welcomeyellow:

Say what now? it isnt possible to reverse?
then why does the instructor say "now...i want you to try the reverse thrust! drop 200 meters behind me!" or something like that...even with a true voice... and when i press the button he says something like "good" and continius with the lessons
also, otherwise, how the hell would i be able to slow down when im traveling forward? sure it sinks in speed and finally stops if i stop holding the "forward thrust" button but it sure takes a while.
also, why would this option be in the controls screen if it cant be used
-
He wants you to decelerate, i.e drop your speed so that you fall back 200 metres from him. Not reversing thrust. Just slowing down.
-
Oh! I see. Hehe i bet it shows that ive never played this game before :P
Thanks alot both of you!
Ill be best off just unassigning "reverse thrust" then :) (I wont be playing any mod)

That's OK. Back when I started with FS, I was basically "Wtf? How the hell do you turn this damn thing?!" in the first training mission. Should've read the manual.
Have fun with FSO. Also try the FSPort, the mod that allows you to play the FS1 campaign with all the fancy things FSO provides.
