Isn't there an old adage about there being no such thing as bad publicity? :D

I'd tend to completely agree with that adage...
Unless of course your name is George Bush, then there's no such thing as good publicity.

I wondered what the actual question was that she completely bungled (because I don't keep up with teen anything... I'm a 'dirty old man', but not THAT dirty) so I thought I'd share:

"Q: Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?"

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, um, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our, uh, education like such as, uh, South Africa and, uh, the Iraq and everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, should help South Africa and should help Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future."

Wow.

I'd be floored too.  I'm still trying to fathom just how they supposedly polled enough people to make the determination that approximately 60 million people in the US don't know where they are on a map... I want sources!  I bet the median age was 5 or maybe the map was a conceptual topographical map of Pangea.  Or maybe the polls were all conducted in areas highly populated by Snake Handlers...

Its simple...there are that many stupid people out there.  I do tech support and am baffled each and every day by new lows.  I'm not even asking for miracles...but ignorance out there is incredible.

I've done tech support too (well, you saw my stories), but come on... how many people haven't looked at a newspaper to see the 'national weather' or seen the US map on the news?

Not to mention the heated election coverage and a hundred billion other graphical references to the country that occur on a daily basis...

If the poll was locating, I dunno, Luxembourg then I could easily see it... but ... aw hell someone just push the big red button and get it over with.  :(

Well I must say this, She was smart enough to know what to say to win(helping poor 3rd world country children) she just was too dumb to say it in the right area.
