Title: Can't start TBP - Getting error message
Post by: jewwe on September 25, 2007, 09:00:02 am
Hi :)

When I try to start the game, the launcher appears - Fine tho. When I hit "Run" it briefly pops up with TBP load-screen thingy and then crashes back to Windows with the following:

Error: The following species are missing icon info in icons.tbl:
Minbari
ISA
Brakiri
Drazi
Vree
Others
Drakh
Shadow
Vorlon

File:J:\src\cvs\fs2_open_3_6_9.final\code\Mission\MissionBriefCommon.cpp
Line: 731
[This filename points to the location of a file on the computer that built this executable]

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------

Has anyone got a solution to this problem? Thanks in advance :)

1) What version are you running?  3.4?

2) Where did you get your version from?

3) Did you install it to its own directory?

4) What flags (if any) are you using?

5) Can you run the debug build (select it in the launcher), and then attach the \TBP\data\fs2_open.log?

It's 3.4 yes.

I downloaded it from filefront I think, thru a link off this forum.

Yes, it was installed to it's own directory.

The flags used are as follows:

D:\games\The Babylon Project\fs2_open_3_6_9.exe -spec -glow -env -jpgtga -mipmap -nomotiondebris -missile_lighting -dualscanlines -targetinfo -orbradar -rearm_timer -ship_choice_3d -3dwarp -tbp -snd_preload  -ambient_factor 65

Haven't played around with it - Those were standard.

And I have attached the fs2_open.log - Dunno if it's done correctly. If not, slap me :P

Thanks for your time jr2 :)

OK, since I'm not a coder, I'll just post the last ~10 lines here: (as this appears to be a coding problem... or maybe a corrupt file problem; IDK)

Code: [Select]
Searching root pack 'D:\games\the babylon project\B5-Core-3_2.vp'
Searching root pack 'D:\games\the babylon project\B5-Core-3_4.vp'
Why does he have two core files?

icons.tbl from the earlier could have been loaded instead of the new enhanced icons.tbl.

Could he have installed 3.4 over 3.2 or something? The core file thing would suggest so. In short, dear jewwe, move the B5-Core-3_2.vp away from the TBP folder. See if that helps.

Guesing: someone didn't read the installation instructions?

O M F G!

I can't belieave how noob that was of me, not to notice that :P

It's a brand-new folder I installed into, so I have no idea how that file came along :/ Haven't installed TBP before.

But thanks alot for correcting the noob ;)

Well, good that the problem has been solved. But I at least am worried that this thing even happened. Where did you get your installer? If it installs Core 3_2, it must have some serious issues. If we can track down the installer you used, we could give the compiler some feedback in order to avoid this problem in the future.

That's the one I just got... standby a few hours; when I get home, I'll check it.

OK, I've just comfirmed: there is no B5-Core-3_2.vp in that install.  Which makes me wonder how the heck it got on jewwe's computer.  Hmm.  Are you sure you didn't have TBP 3.2 on there from another source?  Are you the only user of that computer?  Did you try to use another installer first?

a) MAGIC!
b) Someone hacked into his computer and put the file there!
c) He moved the file there himself whilst possessed by the devil!
d) A random series of disk errors actually generated the file purely by co-incidence (fix: disable infinite improbability drive)
e) VOODOO!
f) Computer infected by "The Babylon Project Virus" which maliciously installs old copies of The Babylon Project
g) The Babylon Project fan at Microsoft installed the file on every Windows machine using Windows Automated Updates
h) The tooth fairy now installs old copies of The Babylon Project instead of leaving money. user lost tooth.
i) VOODOO MAGIC!
j) User didn't read instructions and installed over old copy of The Babylon Project (unlikely).

Anyone else have any ideas?

k) hackers hired by MS sabotage every windows user's games, so they cannot play anything and spends 60 bucks on Halo 3, the only thing not sabotaged. Even Xbox 360 titles are currently blocked !

Easy!
l) It's a huge high-level government conspiracy, secretly run by Talk-Like-A-Pirate Pirates to mis-inform TBP users about archive file contents in order to cause 'user' errors during installation just to get IP to hand out ever-more copious amounts of cynical sarcasm1 which is then fed on2 by none other than SATAN3!

That's what IT jobs do to people...

3Hi! Nice to meet you!

Yes I've become a bit cynical. Guilty as charged. Luckily I have the TBP fans here to do the support work for me.
