well..... how do you?
-
You don't. PCS2 is just for setting up the POF data like firing points and thrusters and such. To retexture you'll need at least photoshop or equivalent and probably some sort of UV unwrapping program as well.

I think he means replacing textures, which can be done by editing the texture names in PCS 1/2.
-
erm... sorry about the vagueness. i meant, like, take a diemos and make all its textures lighter coloured, while still keeping the little lines and such.
-
In PCS2 click on textures - it will provide the name of the bitmap(s) you need to edit. Copy them and save to new file names. Edit the textures in a paint program.
Hopefully you know about vp files (and for FSO mediavp's -dds format)
There is a texture replacement function that can be used for the ship table. This allows you create a new ship to use the unaltered pof file with your new texture map.
-
how about a new ship with aeolus textures. (it has a big chunk for the front, a little bottleneck in the middle, and BIG engines.) will that work? how do you put the textures on?

actually PCS2 has a button below the texture name you can click on and it will (auto-extract if needed and) load it into a paint program.
"open externally"

You trying to re-texture a existing ship or make a new one?
If you'd explain in detail it would be easier...
*sigh*
Ok, let's assume you want to make a new Deimos with Aeolus textures.
APPROACH 1 - Open the Deimos in PCS2 and in the texture tab replace the name of hte texture on the Deimos with the name of a texture from the Aeolus. Once you're done save the pof under a new name.
If you jsut want to change hte COLOR of hte texture, then extract the Demos textures inot a temporary folder, re-name them and use some image editing program to change their color (changing the hue should do it). Sve hte textures unser a different name and repeat approach 1, only use the names of textures you jsut made.
An alternative (if you don't want a new ship with different weapons & stats) is to use hte texture replacement bottun in FRED.
