I have some questions, and I don't know exactly where to post them...
1- I can't watch cutscenes in fs2 open... and copying them into the hdd doesn't work either... its just me or it's a bug or something?
2- How did the Lysander and teh Actium got their names printed in their hulls? It's a texture or something? How can I do that to my capital ships?
-
Hmm... you are using 3.6.9? And you are using .MVE or .AVI, or .OGG cutscenes? The Lysander and Actium, I know about, but IDK how it's done, something about a nameplate... I'll let someone else explain that.
:welcomeblue:

It's a texture.

In game cutscenes... the originals, me thinks...
The Deimos corvettes have a weird multicolor thing on their hulls, where the lysander and the actium have their names printed on ...

Turn off alpha env mapping from the launcher's experimental features section.
As for the movies not working, where did you copy them from, and where did you put them?
-
Are you using Direct3D? That'l effectively prevent the cutscenes from working. Switch to OpenGL from the Launcher's Video tab.
-
i'v copied them from the cd's to c:\games\freespace2\movies and c:\games\freespace2\data\movies but it doesn't work... in fs1 i had the same problem and copying them from the cds to the c:\games\freespace\movies solved it :(
i'm using opengl
It says "Unable to play 'xxxxx' movie" or something like that
-
You can try to move them to \freespace2\. Or if bandwidth is not an issue, you could get the cutscenes in ogg, either by using Turey's Installer (see sig) or from this (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,44291.0.html) thread.
-
how can i play them?
-
Um... in-game they should play. If not, something is terribly wrong. Outside the game, VLC Media Player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) will play oggs, among other things.
-
You'll know the cutscenes are working if you start the game and it plays intro.mve (i.e you get the intro cutscene)
-
THe only thing i see when i open fs2_open is the scp splash screen
-
Something just popped to my mind. Are you sure that you're running fs2_open? Because at least I didn't get any specific reports about missing cutscenes with FSO. The retail FS2 on the other hand persistently reminded me about that.
Rule number 1: FS2.exe and FreeSpace2.exe are a no-no. Launcher.exe and fs2_open_3_6_9.exe are a yes-yes.
-
I'm not that stupid :p
---
I've a shortcut on my desktop to the launcher, so i think im running fs2open....
Copying the movies to the \freespace2\ folder doesn't work....
they are not vital, but i'd like to know why i can't play them

In the launcher, what executable is selected at the top?
-
fs2_open_3_6_9.exe
-
Run the debug build instead and post the FS2_Open.log you'll now find in your data folder.
-
Actually... hmm, do that, and: do the cutscenes play if you have the Retail disc in the drive? (Disc #2 for FS2 is the intro cutscene disc.)
-
Are you using the .MVE versions?
I thought you couldn't play that format in SCP. Mabye I'm not up to date with SCP 3.6.9.
-
MVE was removed at one point, but now it's back.

My nameplates still don't work on some ships. :(
-
The movies don't play even if the cd is in the drive... I don't know what to do...
---
Running the debug build doesn't create any log file or something
-
check data/fs2_open.log
-
It won't let me paste it... so... i'll attach it

Double-check this. :)
-
Oh sorry! It doesn't play with OpenGL either (i was using GL before I ran the debug... when I ran the debug I switched to DirectX)
-
Query: Only the videos don't play, or the entire game doesn't work with OpenGL?
As a general rule at the moment, DirectX isn't really actively supported, so you should be using OpenGL if at all possible. Anyhow, since you run the debug at D3D mode, it doesn't really help in solving the problem of missing videos because they don't show up in D3D anyway. Run the debug again, in OpenGL mode, and re-post it - that should have more information on why the OpenGL mode doesn't show the movies. ;)

The movies on the CD do work with FS2 Open 3.6.9, I found out, but the end one was all red. No green, no blue.
MVE was removed at one point, but now it's back.
Damn, allready stated. :doubt:
