Title: I need some help on installing/fixing FS2

Well, I own this game basically since its initial release, and though I lost my original CDs years ago I copied my FS2 folder from old HDD to new HDD, so its still on my Computer, atm with SCP updates. However, i experience problems with certain mods/campaigns (FSport,PI), and thought about reinstalling the game with the provided downloads.
However, Im used to the (atm installed)German version of the game, and i want to keep the ingame voicefiles/briefing text etc. I didnt find a German download yet.
My question is, can this be done? What files do I need to carry over to my new installation, does anybody know? Is it even possible without having the same problems as before (cause unknown atm)?

Use Turey's installer. Select your FS2 folder in the installer and check all of the boxes except for the Mac-related ones and any mods you don't want. This will update your game correctly.

make backups of all the retail .vp files before you do that. If the new version doesn't work in German, simply copy the root  and stu .vp files into your freespace2 directory, and see if that works.

yeah cole, if he's already got the vp files handy he might as well not waste the bandwidth downloading them again.  Try not to recommend that if it's not necessary as it's costing a lot of bandwidth to our blessed hosters.

Especially given that he wants to play the game in German.

From what I've been told the SCP will work with the German version as long as you preserve the German version of at least root_fs2.vp, stu_fs2.vp

Personally I think it's smartest to just keep all the retail files and get Turey's installer to add everything else except the retail files and cutscenes. You can then copy the movies from the CDs (they're the .mve files on CD 2 and 3) to your FS2 folder.

That's what I told him. If he downloads into his retail folder it won't waste bandwidth.

If he has different VP files, won't Turey's installer overwrite them?
