Title: Terran Carriers?
Post by: CaptainX on October 01, 2007, 06:18:29 pm
Greetings all.

After a long stint of working mucho overtime, I am now ready to get back to working on the campaign I announced a coupla months ago.

I have decided to change things up in my campaign a bit. The player's mothership will no longer be a brand new supercarrier, but rather an aging ship that still has a lot of fight left in her, but is overshadowed by the newer ships.

My question is this: On Hades combine, there are six carrier class ships listed for download. Out of those ships, I only found 1 class that I am thinking about using. However, I was wondering... are there any other carrier type ships out there for download?

I'm looking for ships that have a carrier type look and feel to them, as opposed to destroyers with hangars.

I've seen a few impressive WIP ships on here, but none seem to have been released yet (The new model of the Midway, for example, is one I am really waiting for.)

Any help would be most appreciated.

There's probably a lot of carrier ships out there for FS2. Basically, all the stuff we have on HC is a combination of Volition Watch Archives, Sectorgame, and HLP.

I figured there are lots of FS2 ships out there... question is, does anyone know where I can find some?

The Midway was release about a month ago.
Geez it's not a good thing to see...  "Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 30 days."
Last model was released back in June  :(

But anywho.....

Introducting.......

TCS Midway heavy carrier class.

The Midway class was introduced during the WCP era.  She managed to fend off the original Nephilim invasion.  Her and her sister ships were invaluable during the second invasion and war.  However, many faults were found during this time.  One by one the ships were taken offline and underwent considerable reconstruction.  The massive hollow section in the middle caused stress problems and were closed up.  The structural beams on the two sides were bolted together, stiffening up the structure.  This also allowed considerable increase in storage space.  In addition to the that section, new underbelly and new much shorter launch systems were introduced, opening even more space to store fighters.  The increase went from 252 to over 300.  She doesn't carry any capital ship weapons, just large number of anti-fighter weapons.  Her main anti-captial weapons are her large number of heavy fighters, seige fighters and bombers.

Where the heck did you find that post???? LOL!!

I've been trying to keep track of that model since it was announced, and the release slipped right by me!

Thank you very much, this is likely the ship I will use in my campaign, cuz it's just cool looking  ;)

The Midway is from Wing Commander, though. You can't really use it in an FS campaign :nervous:. It would be... confusing.

I originally planned to use the Midway as the player's mothership in my campaign. After doing some testing, I decided to avoid that because it's too small to really serve as a stand alone carrier.

Impressive model though, it might make an appearance in my campaign. Even though the model is from WC, I'm sure it'll do just fine as a new class of ship in the FS universe.

Well, what ship are you considering to use?
As you said, it should be an older, smaller design than the "new" carriers  (will they even appear in your campaign then? )

Hmmm.. I have 2 Terran Carriers.....the Galaxy would be too big for the job...maby the Lancer/Fury?

The Galaxy class is actually the ship I'm using

It's a bit larger than I originally intended the player's mothership to be, but I like its overall look and feel. It just looks like a tough ship, and has enough turrets to hold its own in a fight without being overpowered.

I especially like the runways on the top of the ship -  it makes it feel like it's a bit older class of ship, maybe it's been around for a few years and is just beginning to show its age.

... or something like that LOL.

On another note, I am just polishing up the cruise liner distress call mission, for those of you who remember the teaser pack I released awhile back  :)

Oh well, I better speed up my polishing up on the Galaxy then... been adding details and doing some better UV mapping work on it, but it's been sitting there for a while...

If you do any updates, please let me know where I can get the latest version. It's turning out to be a very nice addition to the campaign.
