I'm in Transcend at the mission in the subspace node, where I have to kill that saya woman, she's in a new fighter model (that wasn't in the original game) I believe.. anyway when I kill her, the game crashes.
I searched the forum but didn't find anything about this. I did notice most people post some kind of error log whenever they have a problem, but I have no idea where to get that. I'm playing in opengl (crashes in directx also) with all those extras (glow, specular maps, etc) turned off.
Thx for your help, I'm anxious to finish this campaign :)

...Saya woman? You mean the Transcendant? And you mean the mission where you are flying in the subspace corridor? If I remember correctly, he (yes, I think it's a he) should die just as time runs out. Then you'd get a cutscene. Of course, if you're cheating and killing him that way, you just might screw up the mission design enough for it to crash. It is a bit long mission, but it'll end eventually.
And as for the fighter model, it's actually the Pegasus stealth fighter from FS2.
-
Actually, Lobo, he's refering to Omega 1, and she is flying a GTF Kelpie.
I think there is a slight problem with the Kelpie... what build of FSO are you using?
Edit: Yeah, just tested that mission, nothing wrong on my end. Was using 3.6.9.
-
Ah, I see. Then by all means, PizzasRgood, ignore my post. My memory serves me as well as ever. Also, I think I played Transcend half a year ago.
-
Yeah it's Omega 1, crashes right when she's exploding.
I'm also using 3.6.9... downloaded everything just a month ago with that installer.

:welcomesilver:
Welcome to the HLPBB...PizzasRgood
-
K, I'm gonna try again. Do you have the mediavps installed? I just read some threads about transcend crashes and at least in one it was implied that if the mediavps are present and in use, some working textures for the Kelpie will be used, effectively putting an end to the crashing.
-
Yeah I'm using them. All that stuff with the different files is why I used the installer and just ticked everything that seemed useful, and I have a mediavps folder with a ton of stuff in it. I haven't had any of the problems that other people had.
This is the command line: fs2_open_3_6_9.exe -mod Transcend, mediavps -jpgtga -snd_preload
edit: oh and thanks Mobius :) It's great to see such an active community for a game this old.. and a genre this dead. Can you imagine I've been playing starlancer for 5 years before I found out about fs open!
-
The problem is with the debris generation. Taristin used 3DSMax, and the (only) converter he used is rather buggy, like creating holes in the model's geometry or crap like that. Transcend was almost scrapped because the Kelpie model wouldn't work.
-
You have a suggestion for countering it, besides re-building the Kelpie?
-
Well, someone could always change the ship class in FRED.
-
I should maybe mention that I have killed kelpies before, without crashing obviously. Unless it was in another campaign, I have only played Derelict and the freespace campaigns.
-
The Kelpie wasn't in Derelict.
-
AFAIK the only campaign the Keplie is in is Transcend.
-
Ok...weird... I just played through transcend, and i'm not getting any problems. Also...if I'm not mistaken, the GTF Kelpie is an extra model that comes with Transcend...
@PizzasRgooD: the log is most likely the msg that you get when the game encounters an error... It should end something like this:
"this error is also in your clipboard"....etc... If you see this, then you can just open notepad and paste it there (just paste... FS2 already copied it for you). But unfortunately I have a feeling that's not what you mean by crashing...
If by chance I did get it right...pls paste the thing somewhere (in a post), so others know exactly what went wrong and they'll know how to help you.
Anyways...I also encountered a minor problem in Transcend. The ships.tbl refers to a cruiser01x.pof (that apparently doesnt exist...). The error then happens when the game tries to find the pof for the GTC Fenris.... (posted this here to see if other also encountered this problem...)
-
The "cruiser01x.pof" is in the Media Vps. If you aren't using those as a secondary mod, obviously it won't find it. :p
-
well....idk, I searched everything (I extracted the vp and the patch vp...but still error...so in the end, I just decided to revert back to the pof of FS2, by changing the table...kinda screws the gameplay a little (maybe)).
-
My point was that I had killed plenty kelpies without crashing, I guess that's relevant because it should mean I'm not missing any files. The cruiser01x thing is for a leviathan if I'm not mistaken, I had no problems with that.
When it crashes, I get a black screen and only my taskbar is showing, on it I can see that there is a visual studio just in time debug window (I have visual studio 2005, I do some C++ but I'm not about to debug a game myself... can't find a way to turn this off). Actually I think that's the reason it's crashing... I've suspected for a while that visual studio causes games to crash when they normally wouldn't.
I'll try pasting that log, but I doubt I will get one.

No no no. Not in Transcend's VP. I mean the Media Vp's for use with 3.6.9 of FSO. Use a mod.ini file to select those as a mod as well as Transcend and it should load them.
-
Ok, I tried it again, and it didn't crash. I didn't change anything...
So Transcend is now finished, very nice at the end there :)
-
@ dark hunter: no, I checked that too. The media vp of fs2 doesn't have it either (extracted those too :P)
-
Oh wait a minute! You are talking about FS2's standard VPs?
You don't have the 3.6.8 Zeta Media Vp's (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39905.0.html)? Go get those, they make FSOpen look very pretty.
-
Just finished the campaign myself. No crashes, except for my brain. :wtf: It's another one of those campaigns... My brain needs rest now...
