Hi, guys:
I don't remember asking for this, but at some point in the WCsaga campaign in the later missions, will there be at least one mother of all kilrathi ships: a kilrathi dreadnaught? (Oh please say yes!) http://wcmdf.solsector.net/main/pictures/1/kdread2.jpg
I sincerely hope you will permit us fans to have immense satisfaction at taking out one of the beasts.

One of these ships alone would be able to push back a complete carrierforce how do you think that a lone pilot can stop it ^_^

Besides: If one of these ships appear, will you scale them 2.2 km or 22 km? :)
(I hope this doesn't end up in another 22 km vs 2.2 km discussion)
-
Thats why I won't answere this question ^_^
-
And regarding the question if one will be in or not, that's classified :D

That probably means yes :D
-
And probably that means "no" ....
-
1 pilot won't stop it, but a whole squad of bombers will.
After all, in WCP we did take on a tiamat...
And regarding the size, I suppose a compromise will have to be found.
But it would be good to let the pilot take part in the destruction of at least one of these things (in the later missions naturally).

Lets see the Kilrathi DN is in its smallest form about 2.2km or at the biggest size 22km long.
Further lets assume that Kilrathi designers spend, in % ,the same amount of internal space for fighters then confed does then even in the smallest form the ship would have a bit more fighters then the Midway could throw into battle (Midway 250).
In its largest incarnation it.....well lets not think about it ^_^ ( 2500 fighters?)
Still I get what you mean. A battle against one of these ships would be awesome. The shere number of fighters and capships involved would be immense.
I imagine that we somehow made it to catch the Kilrathi offguard and the Dreadnought is without its escort..even then to balance out the strength you would have an immense fleet battle.
Lets say the DN is only 2.2km long than it would have about 300 fighters. Confed would need 2-3 carriers to balance that out.
Haveing about 600-700 fighters on screen at the same time would be an insane battle scene ^_^

[Heavenly voice]Now, Now, you shall not discuss the dreadnaught length :mad2: [/heavenly voice]
Regarding the battle, I doubt the dreadnaught would need escort vessels at all. But regardless the number of defending fighters Lars's already mentioned, it would be logic that such ships have also an intensive AA-Defense.
The Dreadnaught will most likely have 100+ turrets in my opinion, and the same goes for the tiamat (in real). Why should one make such amount of works and cost to build such big ships, and then a single bomber with some escorting fighters will kill it.
But ingame, that's wasn't possible before I guess, and that's why they are so "weak".
So, back to topic :
I'm not saying that we have a dreadnaught, nor do I say we have none :D It will depend on the number of gifts I receive for finishing it (my bank account for donations and the address for present shippings can be asked via pm or under my email adress "[email protected]")
But IF we make one, you people will fear it :pimp:
-
I haven't discussed the length...just said that the scale could be somewhere between this or that. Well some persons have a strict opinions about that ^_^
Anyway I agree with Starman that the DN would be heavily armed. In one cutscene of the WC3 intro you see a turret that is nearly the size of the escorting transport. If that are AMG's that I fear that this thing could take out a small corvette or even frigate with just one blow or two.
The size of the turret is quite hard to tell since one would have to do quite a number of calculations and we don't know for sure how close the transport is but from the first impression/look its a simple WTF experience ^_^
To bring this thing to a final...if we see this ingame or not, of its huge or even f****** huge the Kilrathi dreadnought is a force to fear and should only be engaged with a massive force on your side.
PS: For you to get a better imagination of how big that ship COULD be.
|---| = TCS Victory carrier 720m
|---||---||---| = DN roughly at 2.2km length
|---||---||---||---||---||---||---||---| = FS2 Colossus 6166m

it means yes, because he would have said "no" otherwise ;7 ;7 ;7
-
Uhm, in that case "No" :p
*runs*

Thanks anyway for understanding my reasons for posting about this.
Now, don't get me wrong, I don't want to cause turmoil or anything, but it's true that I felt a little frustrated (and I don't think I'm the only one) from the fact that the only way to battle a dreadnaught was on the loosing side of WC3. I just go by the "destroy at least one ship of each class" type doctrine (sorry).
I think that against that target, a 2 stage assault like on the WCP tiamat would work: 1: create dead angles by clearing enough turrets
2: finish the job with bombers.
If such a target could be cleared, then it would mean considerely weakening the kilrathi forces in a whole sector ensuing the shock following the "invincible" dreadnaught's destruction that may favour the accomplishment of the final missions and eventually the goal (whatever that may be) of saga.
Now, those are my points of view (for what they are worth) and naturally, you may either approuve or tell me to go and take a healthy hike very far from the freespace community  I just hope you won't consider my ideas as a way to bug you (you guys are great).
P.S: yes, 22km, I know. I honestly think the designers said this without thinking. I'd go for 4Km: Looks already nice that way (while still demarking itself as the most powerful and the largest on the kilrathi side) and yet stays less powerful then the tiamat (and our good old colossus/sathanas duo).

Prince T: "Glory be to Sivar, there will be no escape for the humans this time!"
Melek: "Would you say that they will be filled with dread, my lord?"
Prince T: "Why, yes, I think they will be filled with absolute horror!"
Melek: "But for good reason..."
Prince T: "Of course! The humans will feel fear but it will not be for a lack of reason!"
Melek: "Aaah, the old 'dreat-naught', my lord!"
Prince T: "I really hate you Melek."
Melek: "Thank you sire!"
-
Not bad.
Besides, not to start a flaming subject or anything, but would 4 Km be to much or would it be fine?
If 4km long it would still remain very impressive!
-
It's *classified*, remember ? :)
Let's just wait and see what the future brings :)

AAARRRGGHHH!!
more super-annoyingly-need-to-know-basis-ultra-top-secret-stuff.

Yeah, right.
We could tell you whether it exists or not, but then we would have to kill you. Sorry, guys!
-
Great... now we have to go around shotting people that know too much
-
That will definitly take to much from our development time...why do people insist on knowing so much *takes out a gun and ammo*
-
AHHH!
Jonny english is back in town!

i love to take out a 22km one of these woot :jaw:
and as for why we wont to know all about the game well WE LOVE the game that why :D
-
I don't think they could do it real scale (besides, it does look ridiculous for the cats to have a 22km killer, I think the programmers were a little overboard on this one, or it could be that the WC3 manual (which I found laden with mistakes, actually)indicated 2.2km which would be quite different.
Anyhow, I think 4km would make it look quite impressive already. The question now is to have one of these we can fight in saga (oh please!!!) but as has been stipulated: TOP SECRET STUFF.

Thanks, we totally understand that, which is why we won't spoil it to death. :) We want the twists, turns, and other suprises in the game to remain that way until you play it so you can have the full experience. Once you've played it, you'll undertand. We appreciate the enthusiasm, though. :)

you have all our best wishes regarding the completion of this behemoth project.

Behemoth? Do I hear Behemoth?
Aaahhh.... Nevermind. :D
