Title: Keep Stargate Atlantis alive by.....
Post by: stargate2008 on October 09, 2007, 01:11:17 pm
Watching the next episode is "Reunion" which will be aired this Friday on Sci-Fi at 10/9c. Please watch "Reunion" live in order to keep the chances of there being a fifth season high!!

Thanks,

We know that you like Stargate, most of us do, but these topics are getting kinda annoying... :doubt:

Yeah, this is basically an advertisement.  I really hope it doesn't continue.

Is what I posted legal? I'd like to know.

It's not and the link was removed for that reason.

Usually I'd have done something about this sort of thing but as long as we don't get one of these every week it's nothing more than a petition by a regular board member to save a well loved show. The only difference is that he's doing it now rather than when the show has been yanked off air.

On the other hand this better be the last one of these since there has been a few Stargate threads posted this month by the same user.

Sorry, guys. You are wrong about legality. In Canada, it is legal to download a torrent/file/whatever, just not to seed it.

Doesn't matter, the forum rules prohibit the linking to or promotion of torrents and any other type of warez.

I know that, I was talking about legality.

And since when has the entire internet been in Canada?

If I live in Canada (which I do) I can download it.

I don't think that they have any way of figuring out whether we tune in or not. I don't have a little box in my house that tells my cable company what I watch, thankfully.

Luckily, Government satellites keyed to track topically applied fluoride - which incidentally does nothing to prevent tooth decay - can also monitor your viewing habits, so your viewing will not go unnoticed. :)

How they get their figures:

A private company gives out boxes to thousands of families in various countries.
These boxes record the channels watched, and at what times, to get the shows watched.
The boxes relay the info back to the company, and they publish the stats the next morning.

They also do phone surveys. I've been called up for that before; they liked my brother's answers but not mine.

Its actually a legal grey area that is allot more complicated in Canada than in other countries such as our southern neighbors.  I think this is a good thing because it keeps the debate out in the open rather than in needless court proceedings.  Nonetheless this forum isn't the place to post such a link regardless of the legalities involved as we have various agreements to uphold.  Thus our strict policy on such matters.

You are, on the other hand, welcome to have a debate in general discussion on copyright and file sharing as long as it stays academic.

As for this thread...its not necessarily advertising.  It could be construed as that but there ARE a great deal of Stargate fans on the board (I'm biased anyways...I watch it all the time) and we've had similar kinds of threads about Farscape and Firefly and either saving them or lamenting their disappearance.  So I would ask that people take it kind heartedly at the very least or ignore it if you must.

Frankly I wish I had scifi so I could watch...but Canadians don't matter to the ratings and unless you have the pay for Movie Network we're still stuck on the end of Season 2.  Season 3 is out on DVD before its available on TV...

PVR/DVD Recorder + The Movie Network = cheap and legal commercial dvd sets (for personal use ONLY!) :D

I've never really had a problem with DVD sets. $70 (Stargate prices, from awhile back) is not all that bad considering you're getting an entire season's worth of video, music, plus extras. $3.18 for an episode? That's damn cheap considering what went into it.
