Title: Hi there!
Post by: Asuko on October 17, 2007, 02:11:03 pm
Hi!

I guess I come off as a new member here. A friend of mine (I believe his forum name is 'Tyrian') recently got me into Freespace and well, I can't say I'm not addicted to it. It's pure shiny is what it is. Oh, and it's a nice time-killer between classes :D

 I suppose I get a welcome beam, right?

<insert compulsory welcome beam here>

Nah, let's do it properly.

:welcomered:

Keep on playing, Asuko. Keep on playing.

They were being abused. When a new guy asked a question, he got 3-8 beams and at least the same amount of slightly varying welcome speeches. People had the tendency to forget to answer the question because of that frenzy, so the new guy then felt somewhat ignored and possibly vanished from HLP for eternity. Conclusion: welcome speeches are not really appreciated anymore, and there is/should be a limit of one beam per new guy.

Haha, I remember Tyrian telling me about how elaborate the welcome speeches got. I was half expecting one actually. Ah well, thanks!

I have a bit of programming expericence, specifically in C++. I know Tyrian told me about using a few of my talents on one of the projects here. So, where do I go to apply?

Look for any threads with the title 'modders needed' or something like it. Then, read what kind of people are needed, then offer your services in those fields of expertise. Quite simple, really.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind whenever I trawl the forums.

That will show you how to check the code out of CVS so you can play with it. You only need look at the SCP forum to see hundreds of requests for new features which the coders don't have time for. Pick one you like and go for it.

That's exactly what I thought Tyrian told me about. Thanks. I'll get to work soon enough.

This is somewhat off topic, but does your friend play Guild Wars?  Given the name "Tyrian" it's not too much of a leap.

I'm sure that at some point, he did play it. I'm just not perfectly sure of it.
