Title: Colored text
Post by: Polpolion on October 25, 2007, 06:35:11 pm
This has gotten out of hand really quickly. Could someone please get them to stop? It's really distracting and makes reading it difficult. And AFAIK, I can't just choose to hide them like I could signatures.

I'd PM them and ask them to stop, but I don't want to have to PM about seven people like that.

I agree, some colors can be hard to read for some people, and it can hurt others.
What if they don't stop, colors get taken away for set amount of time?

By this, do you mean coloured text in their posts?

I dont mind the brown text, but the radioactive red, green or blue around the edges with white text in the middle is annoying.

Fascists.  Whatever happened to free speech? :p
Title: Re: Colored text
Post by: JGZinv on October 26, 2007, 02:07:17 am
I sorta like the extra people posting in a different color, takes away
from the usual standard.

Doing nothing but posting about your colors for a whole thread just to waste
space.... as a person with moderator/admin status on other forums, I can't say is
ever a good thing.

If it were not harder to read, I might change to green myself...

As to visibility, like the black and spoiler type colors, why not just highlight
the text?
Title: Re: Colored text
Post by: karajorma on October 26, 2007, 02:21:36 am
If people want to post in hard to read colours that's their choice. If no one else can be bothered to read or respond to their comments because it's too much effort to highlight their text then that is their problem.

Freedom of speech doesn't necessarily mean people have to listen to you. :p

On the other hand if I see yet another topic which has been derailed just so people can discuss their colours again action will be taken.

Loosely related. Tiny text. Am I the only one who finds it annoying?

I think that most people are doing it in protest of Mobius's use of colored text.

Loosely related. Tiny text. Am I the only one who finds it annoying?
Nope. I do too.

It's yet another example (like beaming and welcome speeches) of people trying to do what the cool kids do and getting it all wrong.

The only real purpose of small text is to point out you were being sarcastic so as to not ruin the joke. Even then it should be used sparingly.

Again the solution is simply to ignore it.

Post by: Fineus on October 27, 2007, 04:11:24 am
I have two words for you people.

Peer pressure.

Those of you who find it annoying, feel free to say whatever you wanted in a thread and add "By the way, that tiny text is really annoying" or something afterwards. If enough of you do it - hopefully those who're doing it in the first place will start thinking twice as it'll become obvious that nobody is liking it.

I personally don't mind colors like your color, BW. For one, it's not this bright, crazy distracting color, and two, it doesn't blend into the background.

Red makes people aggressive. Green has the contrary effect. Are you happy now? :doubt:
Title: Re: Colored text

Green is even harder to read, and therefore makes at least me quite aggressive. If you have to use coloured text, go back to red. Or better yet, neon pink. That really stands out from the background. And reminds us of Hideto Matsumoto.

Title: Re: Colored text

But he's using the default color. You're using a different color which derails about 20% of all threads you post in.

Default or not, white is a color. And what's the difference between colored posts and colored signatures? You claimed...that you use your signature to find your posts when parsing a page. Colored posts are even easier to find :P

Condor.
Title: Re: Colored text
Post by: Jeff Vader on October 30, 2007, 04:12:54 pm
I don't think it's about using colours anymore. It's about using colours that are ****ing hard to read. Black Wolf uses a pretty colour that stand up from the black background. You use a dark red that is as easy to see as a shadow on the road on a dark autumn night. If your sanity really demands you to use posts that aren't white, at least go with a brighter colour so that we can see what you've been typing. K?

Are you refering to me?!?

Many signatures are useful. There are links to The FAQTM, Media VPs, Turey's Installer, screenshots, "How to solve the X problem" hints(these things make them useful for newcomers), opinions about various aspects of life...and most signatures are just...funny to read. Ignore them at your own risk.:P

And if so why is he suddenly saying that upon seeing a picture of Rainbow Brite? The only theory that springs to mind is that he has previously been propositioned by Ms Brite but didn't know her name.
