Title: Translate mods to other languages?...
Post by: Alex Navarro on October 26, 2007, 04:01:24 pm
Hello there! :D

(excuse my english, people). And if we translate to other languages your mods?, so people with difficult at translating from english in situ can enjoy entirely this game and your mods. With this, i think we can attract more players so the freespace cumunity grows up. What do you think about all this, comrades?

If you want, i could translate spanish-english or english-spanish (i'm not an english teacher  :nervous:, but, if you want, i would be glad to help you, i'll try it. :p)

So what do you thing? :nervous:.

Welcome to the HLPBB. You already know me ;)

This is an interesting idea. There are other Spanish members here on HLP, they will problably help you. It's reletively easy to translate something to your home language(not from).

Just be sure to do the right thing: work on the strings.tbl(you can get it from the main FS2 VPs), editing each mission and table is annoying(and sometimes useless).

There's been talk about translating. And why not? I've thought about translating at least the main campaigns into Finnish. The problem is that the game has difficulties with alphabets that aren't the standard a,b,c,...,x,y,z. Until someone manages to implement a solution for using some actual fonts, it's kind of difficult to get any rarer alphabets to display properly.

As far as I know, translations to Spanish and Italian will not require "unconventional letters"(no offense). They can be done with the standard alphabet.

No, wait...is the reversed "!" implemented? :P

AFAIK the inverted ! will become a blank character.

Do letters like é and ñ really display properly or were you thinking of circumventing them with e and n? I present those as mere examples, since my Spanish is not that fluent. As for Finnish, there are actually only two alphabets that can't be directly displayed in-game.

Uhm, wait...

The ñ isn't implemented, I think.

"è" and "é" aren't implemented, but you can write " e' " to replace them. It's an error, but it's better than nothing. When they appear in the middle of a world(common, in French)you can write "e" without any problems :)

My challenges are ä and ö. You can try to circumvent them in many ways, such as typing ae and oe, or possibly just a and o. Oh, and there's å but that one is so rarely used that I shan't bother to count it. But still, it'd be nice to have them usable. Oh well. Life sucks and then you die.

Wow. You responded quickly.
Hmmmm...  :blah: Well, well... so be it.  ;) I'll translate the game core messages first, and the main campaign, the tech room, etc etc. Yes, the "ñ", "á", ";", and such can´t be pasted in the game, but we can survive without them (for now). Words like "señor" would be "senor", or "misión" would be "mision", for example. Ok, i'll translate to spanish. Let's do it  . Thank you for your replies and your time, people. Hello again Mobius!

Message to campaign/mod designers: If you want your mods/campaigns translated to spanish (for any reason), you can count with me. Who want my translation service? I'll translate mission messages, briefings/debriefings, tech rooms... (when i don't have exams or work, of course ). My hands are yours. :P Who give me his/her approval?

You should think about the main FS2 campaign and the FS Port first. You should proceed with the most common MODs(BSG, TBP and WCS) to bring here more "Conquistadores" :P

Remember, work on the strings.tbl file and see how to use it properly. If you make mistakes when using regedit, well... :blah:

The game engine uses Strings.tbl. The FS2 missions, tables and any mods will use Tstrings.tbl instead.

Starting with Strings.tbl is the best idea because any changes to that file can instantly be used by all the TCs as well as FS2.
