Title: Windows XP Not Detecting Drives
Post by: KappaWing on October 26, 2007, 07:58:06 pm
Windows detects my internal hard drive and my external hard drive, but it no longer detects my internal CD, external DVD, external CD, and mounted virtual drive. It seems like windows no longer detects devices with removable storage. Help!

I went in to device manager and found that windows knows it has the drivers installed, but cannot detect that the hardware exists. The only solution it gives is that my hardware is broken. theres no way all of my drives broke at once!

This happens to me too occasinally. I'm pretty sure it's just that parts of the OS have gotten corrupt.

What does Disk Management say?  What codes (if any) is Device Manager giving?

From Device Manager:

Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
For all of my CD/DVD drives, real and virtual.

Thanks for the help!
