Title: Sketchup Chinese Pocket Carrier
Post by: Unknown Target on October 27, 2007, 01:07:23 am
A small Chinese carrier for our game project - it carries up to 9 fighters, and while pathetic alone, is deadly in packs :)

(A couple earlier WIP stuff):

And where it is now;

There are three fighters in each of the pods, and the hatches pop open for them to fly out/in. :)

It's our own game :)

Editing the front, it's a radardome:

The bend in the middle looks... wrong. I dunno. Maybe I'm getting atmospheric and vacuum mechanics messed up, but wouldn;t that make thrust distribution all screwy? t kind of looks like someone's hit it with a stick or something.

Other than that I quite like it. The detail looks about right, and the design is unique enough to pass muster, while not being silly or overdone. Just that dent.

So it can fit into the handy plastic containers, stamped out at 3 cents a unit.

Just make sure their not part of a recall.

No worries about the recall unless the Chinese in the mod will use 'conventional' projectile weaponry... then there will be too much lead content for sure.

I like the 'bend' though... I think it really adds to the overall design and would look much more drab without it.  Reminds me of something from Freelancer too...  or maybe it was from the FL mod I worked on for a short time.  Still, :yes:

As far as flight dynamics, even without the bend, I think it would veer 'up' because of the larger mass on the top-front with two pods and higher thrust with two engines at the opposite corner of the center of... er... rotation(?).  All it takes to fix that is a little thrust vectoring though.  And if they can make space-faring ships, I think they can handle that.  :P

If you have thrust pushing on your vessel regardless of the medium that the vessel is traveling through, you generally want your hull (or the majority of it) to be parallel to your thrust vector. Otherwise, you start to (obviously) call in additional stress factors. In scifi, you can write off hull stresses as being relieved by some super alloy or internal structuring.

What kind of game? I mean, you come here with these models basically saying, "Haha!!! Not for Freespace!! Nanaaa!!". And who is making it? (Other than you) :D
