Hello at first!
I have a problem using OpenGL in FS2Open. When I set the Graphics Mode to "Direct3D8", the game works almost perfectly, but when I try it with "OpenGL", it crashes right after the FS2Open Opening Screen with a windows error message.
More Infos:
AppName: fs2_open_3_6_9.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: atioglxx.dll
ModVer: 6.14.10.6956 Offset: 003611a4
Can anyone help me please? :(
I'm using a HP nx6325 notebook with an AMD Sempron 3500+ 1,8 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, Ati Radeon Xpress 1150 Graphics Adapter

Make sure all your drivers (in this case particularly the graphics card drivers) are up to date. Also, Radeon Xpress 1150 doesn't sound very promising. The problem might just be related to that particular model. I've heard evil stories about HP laptops and their graphics solutions.

Those were not just stories ;)
Even the WGA certificated drivers sometimes don't work with this onboard solution: setup always tells me it doesn't find a compatible device
But back to topic: I will follow your advice and try to install the newest drivers...hope it will work THIS time!
Edit: oh yeah by the way: Thanks for the warm welcome ;)

Uhm...great...I managed to install the newest drivers (October 5th or so), but I still get the error message. I heard that I can experience the full quality only with OpenGL. Is it true?

Direct3D has some graphical issues and it usually prevents the cutscenes from playing so yes. OpenGL would be the preferrable option. But, if you can't get that working, you're doomed to using Direct3D.

dammit!! :hopping:

That card has problems, IIRC. In fact, I think I just read a post about someone using exactly that card, and it not working.

FSO is known to work on lesser ATI cards, so I'm sure that the hardware is fine. It's most likely just a driver issue. What Catalyst version are you using?
The current version for that card is 7.10, so if you have something older (which would likely happen if you go by what HP offers) then you might want to upgrade. I did see where you said "October 5th or so", and since 7.10 was released on the 1tth, this might actually be what you have. If that's the case then you could try going back a version or two, to 7.9 or 7.8, and see if one of those work better for you.
And remember that you now longer have D3D to fall back on, since we no longer support it and it's disabled in all future builds. All you've really is OpenGL, so it would be a good idea to get that working if you plan to use future versions of FSO. :)
