Title: Your mission pilots...
Post by: S-99 on October 29, 2007, 12:34:19 am
...is to do a poll.

That spewing of sci-fi knowledge of our favorite games (fs1 and fs2) that occured? If you don't know which thread, just look for the one with the two knowledge boughs that got locked and used to feature trashman's name as part of the title. It was like two fat guys wearing anime shirts that were way too small, had BO problems, and fighting with each other over who knows more about the given sci-fi subject at either one of the 3 conventions that just went bad.

A. a bad Comic book convention
B. a bad Star trek convention
C. a bad Babylon 5 convention
D. it had many resemblances to star trek vs. star wars arguments

It's ok, security is minimal at either one. Security at a comic convention is going to be surrounding Stan Lee to protect him from suicide autographees, as well at the star trek convention security will be surrounding patric stewart from the same credible threat. At babylon 5 convention you can expect security to be the same way. In the star trek vs. star wars classic arguments likenesses there is no security...expect a brawl at this one.

Do you honestly think this isn't going to get locked?

I guess i should say i don't really care. This is just my way of opening up a thread of when hlpbb has 3 year olds, and people should definitely discuss this topic in a civil non 3 year old way. At the same time, hell yeah i'm going to point some humor at what happened in the other thread too. The other thread was appauling and funny at the same time.

This thread has a lot less reason to get locked than the other one.

Fair enough, I suppose, but I very much doubt I'm alone in that when I see a locked thread, that's one of the first threads I open to see what happened and why it was locked. That little padlock is as big a flare as needs to be sent up if people are acting stupidly. People are going to read the thread and probably, since it this case the locking was entirely valid, come up with the same conclusion you have.

Instead, now we've got this thread which is inflammatory to the people involved and will pretty much have to be locked. I don't like locking threads. Moreover, you're trying to point out the humor value of another thread of people acting childish and insulting each other by... doing more or less the same thing? It's the equivalent of laughing at the kid who's sitting in the corner - not really any better than him, and likely to get you put right next to him. I just don't see the point.

I'm not an admin, there have been two voters, neither of whom were me or, as far as I can tell, any of the admins.

It doesn't reflect well on the people involved in the other thread that they got their thread locked. But it reflects, I think, worse on you that you had to make another thread celebrating it.

Whoops... I think I locked the poll instead of the topic...

I see I'm going to have to spend more time in General Freespace, I've been focussing on General Discussion in the (apparently mistaken) belief that people in the Freespace boards could behave themselves and act like adults.

5 Locked threads on a single page suggests otherwise.
