Title: Microsoft Game Content Usage Rules
Post by: Devrous on October 29, 2007, 05:25:27 pm
(http://www2.gvsu.edu/~cobbrj/6billysm.jpg)

Before the hammer falls...

Freespace 2: Halo was created under Microsoft’s “Game Content Usage Rules” using assets from Halo, © Microsoft Corporation.

Thanks to Micro$oft's Legal Department I may be pasting the above (no, not the picture!!!) all over my mod. But it may not be enough...

Anyone who has followed this mod's progress knows that I started off moving at lightspeed, with a ton of new material streaming from my brain into my computer. Then I had a summer from hell, but managed to get everything back on track. I am moving at a good pace once again, but have not shown much for it online in the forums. The main reason for this was a message from someone who got shut down, and a link to Microsoft's Game Content Usage Rules posted back in August.

Linky: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/developer/rules.htm (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/developer/rules.htm)

While my gut tells me this email was not genuine, the underlying message is. Anyone who played Command & Conquer: Generals and loved Halo probably looked forward to HALOGEN. But M$ shut them down to make way for thier own 360 title "Halo Wars."

Even here on the forums it was briefly discussed that this mod had the potential to attract the banhammer. I, too, highly doubt that a Halo-based space flight sim is in the works over at Microsoft, but you never know. Regardless, the Game Content Usage Rules are worded interestingly in some places, while in others it is crystal clear and pretty much common sense. I'd like for there to be some discussion about whether or not the community here thinks FS2H has a chance of being foxed into oblivion.

In either case, I will continue to be a little more discreet about game content and such until I get closer to finishing. If they did ever decide to give me a cease & desist, I'd rather get it after I've released it and everyone already has a copy

More content and the demo coming soon, I PROMISE!

P.S. Sorry about the picture, Mr. Gates...it is just too funny not to post here!

Do you think she'd like you looking at other nekked women?  :p  Didn't think so.  I'm not married or going to be yet, but I don't think my future better half would appreciate it.

EDIT: BTW, Devrous, check out the Windoze logo YouTube vid I posted about here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,50223.0.html

Hey, I just find it asinine that you'd think looking up pr0n would in any way affect any future relationship. Bloody hell, if your partner takes issue with something as mundane as masturbation, it's a sign to get as far away as possible.

Anyway, back to the topic. Just try to stay under the radar as much as possible, right up to your release. As such, it's probably not a good idea to widely release a demo on a place like ModDB. By all means, drum up support and popularity - posting anonymous and unidentified screenshots of later releases around the web would undoubtedly get people salivating - but go for the big release show only at the end of the primary development processes.

Get hip63 to do an Installer for you if you can.  Major Hippie does excellent installers IMHO.  ;)

Don't cry Turey we still love you and your installer (Although I never used it. I still prefer doingt it the good old manual way) And he probably meant another sort of installer namely a windows installer.

Eh... I meant an initial installer.  hip63 packages things pretty nicely.  :p  That affects some people weirdly (remember, there are these creatures that buy Vista out there  )  I would hope that either hip63 or Huggybaby would include your Installer/Updater if you had support for Halo for FreeSpace... as it has been done that way for BtRL and the SCP DVD.  Eh, besides, I can't ask him to ask you to make an Installer for him, as you've already made it.  :p  All he has to do is send you the text files containing the necessary filenames and server links.  :p

@Devrous: Yeah, send him those files when you get around to the installer business.

Hip63 does use Turey's Installer, he labels it the "Updater" in the start menu folder.

I'm not Christian and I don't watch "pr0n" stuff. It's disgusting  :ick:

Back on topic...HLP could be closed in a future because of FS2H? That's what you're trying to tell us, Devrous?  :)

You say that because you don't know where I live. Many French, Swiss, Austrian and German people are closer to Vatican than me. Even TrashMan, who is Croatian, is closer to it than me :P

I say that because I find attractive only a female I love. Full stop.

And don't forget that my original question is waiting for an answer :P

It's a map showing where HLP visitors come from. The bigger the dot, the more visits from that area. Check the front page.
