Recently I installed FS2_Open on my Gentoo box using Turey's installer. I didn't have a chance to really get a feel for how it played on Linux until I played through the Blue Planet campaign.
My only complaint is that, although the readme claimed there would be nebulae, I didn't see any. Just a dark skybox littered with stars, and the occasional planet (Earth, Delta Serpentis, etc). Is there a special command-line flag I need to get the nebulae working?

Blue Planet uses LS Nebulae but doesn't provide them. They must be acuired separately. You can find them behind the Useful stuff link in my sig. Give me a shout if you can't open .7z files and I'll upload them in a different manner.
Edit: Oh, and if you can open the .7z file, just extract the .vp inside to your mediavps folder and you're set.

Wow, I feel stupid. For some reason I was under the impression the nebulae were included in the stuff downloaded by Turey's installer.
Thanks.

Yeah, I know. It's strange that the Installer doesn't download them. Originally I had to search the LS Nebulae with cats an dogs, which is the main reason why I'm now keeping them on my webspace, so that there's at least one place where one can get them.

Okay, now I can't see Earth in the third mission.
Le sigh.
