Going for the look of a YT-1300 with the cockpit in the middle?
Title: Re: WIPie!
Post by: Topgun on November 03, 2007, 06:22:15 pm
kinda, but smaller. it's a small fighter.

IMO, the polies should be used for something else other than simply just bumps. But cool nonetheless.

like what?
Title: Re: WIPie!
Post by: Snail on November 03, 2007, 06:32:26 pm
Ehh, by bumps I meant the cuboid-like things sticking out of the wings. They could be used to make it look more like a fighter. Right now it looks more like a concept.

do you mean the guns or the ridges?
Title: Re: WIPie!
Post by: Snail on November 03, 2007, 06:39:02 pm
The ridges. I think it needs more "real" details. Like plating lines or stuff like that.

I'm afraid I have to agree. The ridges really don't add much and you have a 1700 poly fighter that looks close to 600 polys. You could accomplish the same thing with bump mapping and use the left over space to add detail to the large, oh-so-blank areas of the ship.

Make the gun barrels round.

It kind of looks like a corporate interceptor from I-War 2.

Two rectangular exhaust vents aft, with a short overhang on both.

And I don't. They look like you were trying to save polies or something. :p

I agree with Cobra.

whats with the funky partial cockpit.
lol, that looks like the Loki's canopy to me - the hole in the middle is where the single thick-ish cockpit strut goes. :D

As for the fighter itself, the guns _really_ stick out - they're like greeble kebab sticks. :p
If you like them then well, that's that, but I would recommend changing them along with giving them a tougher looking mounting where they connect with the ship. They kinda look like they're just waiting to snap off there.

Other than that it's fine so far. :) What do the engines look like?

hey, you noticed. I hope you don''t mind me using it. I originaly put it in so I would know where it would be when Iam done. but since it looks so nice, I thought why not keep it. :p

engine update:

I had a really hard time with these suckers :hopping:. (stupid Snap-to-grid  )!!!!

thanks. and, does anyone know a good, fast way of beveling edges in blender?

In edit mode, after you've selected the edges:

I don't know the ins and outs of it though, as I prefer to do any bevelling manually. :)

that bevels ALL THE EDGES!!!! I want to bevel a select few.

Bevels SELECTED edges, faces, vertices.

oops... :nervous:

EDIT: does it bevel corners?
Title: Re: WIPie!

what does that mean? seriously.
Title: Re: WIPie!
Post by: Topgun on November 07, 2007, 11:31:36 am
I want a fast way to make the sq on the left. bevel center makes the one on the right.

@Titan: bevels sorta "smooth" edges. the pic I gave is of 2 squares beveled.

There might be - I don't really know. I do all that kinda stuff manually because I find it so much faster and better looking than any automatic feature in any program I've tried.

To do what you have there I'd just select the edges making up that shape and extrude (E) it along its normal for a little way before shrinking it a bit.
