Title: help cant start game

hey guys

i ran the installer and downloaded everything.
however when i try to run FS2 i i get this error msg "FS2/FRED cannot be run from a drive root directory"

my file is saved in C:\freespace2

please help i wana play this great game!

do you have retail freespace2? because my friends having problems with that. also, i think it has to go c:/something/freespace2

copy the freespace2 folder to C:\Games\

I have the game in D:\Games\FS2 , but I have the same problem - Retail FreeSpace2 doesn't work . Only SCP works .  :(

Well , there are a few campaigns for retail that work better on retail than on SCP , or don't have an SCP patch . So I kinda need a way to fix it .

i have FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!

you should launch the game with the file Launcher.exe instead of Fs2.exe!!

Hmm... I have another solution, too... use FreeSpace2.exe > that's the Retail version of Launcher.exe  ;)

Yea , I try to launch the retail FS2 through the retail FS2 launcher . And I tried to launch it with the game exe itself . No effect . Still says that it can't be run from the drive root directory . Also , the retail launcher doesn't seem to accept the options I change .

This problem is often caused by running from the desktop, My Computer or via a badly created shortcut.

Run it directly from the folder FS2 is in if you haven't already.
