It seems Freespace has a father.

Look at the date. :blah: You be the judge.
-
lol, but what is it? no pics, no nothin, just a name, a cheat, a download, and nothing else.
-
YOU !
Why don't you ever get online anymore ?! ;)
And , why do you think that MadSpace is somehow connected to FreeSpace ?

Probably because the title ends in Space. But if FreeSpace's father was MadSpace, I hope that FS didn't get beaten as a child because his father was so angry. And the new question may, in fact, be "Who is FreeSpace's mother?"
-
Just based on the date, I'd say it's more likely that "Madspace" was some variation of SpaceWar...

The name Madspace comes about since the laws of physics are often defied in this program
:p
-
Looks like a rip-off of Wolf3d (there are like a hundred).
-
FreeSpace's father? Colony Wars.
-
Colony Wars' father? Space Invaders.
-
Not really, Space Invaders is the classic "OMG save Earth from the aliens!" game while Colony Wars started as the rebellion of oppressed humans against Earth itself.
Colony Wars' father is the American Independence
-
And , why do you think that MadSpace is somehow connected to FreeSpace ?
Because it's obviously the precursor of ALL PC games. :p
Game: Madspace (PC)
Release Date: Dec 31, 1969
-
Like they actually had PC's in 1969....
The size of a small house..:p
(something with that date is wrong)
-
Game: Madspace (PC)

:wtf:
Was it a weapon from the Cold War or something?

More like FS's GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT father.. :D
-
That'd be "FS's GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT GRAND father," or else it just means that FS's dad is a really great kinda guy. :D
-
Heh i played this once.Pretty interesting
Looks like a rip-off of Wolf3d (there are like a hundred).
This wasn't a ripoff of Wolf3d; Wolf3d was a rip-off of THIS !
but in all seriousness think they probably got the date wrong. There's just no way that pc games being released back then (if they even were) would look like that O_o
-
Heh, yeah. Even 15 years later a game with top-notch graphics looked like this (in the original 320x200 resolution).

Mmmmmmmm, pixelage

Pfft...nitpicks.
Either way, old as hell would be the proper terms for it...:P
-
oh dear....
I think FS has enough issues without you all bring up the fact that he never knew his father
-
well sorry for the spam here but i have a question for Fearless Leader if youre so Fearless then would you care to take charge of a Hecate destroyer and go off to battle it out beam cannons style with a Ravana or a Sathanas??? :P
-
I would do it with a Livathan vs a Sathanas if I had AlphaOne flying escort :p
-

He's sensitive enough that he was adopted by Descent
-
That's spooky, I was just thinking about Way of the Exploding Fist last week, and castor posts a screenshot.....
iirc, it was the first ever fighting game, before even barbarian or street fighter etc.
-
Yep, released in 1985. Was quite ja jaw dropper back then.. for the first time you could actually hear the bones crushing.
Oh the innocence :D
-
The one thing I loved about that game was the ability to walk up to your opponent and simply kick them in the nuts, and collect your points as they bent over double in agony ;)
-
Renegade and Target Renegade were far better for that though. With the latter being the pinnacle of beat-em-up games as far as I'm concerned. After T:R the genre went back to one one one fights and an increasing reliance on the ability to remember and perform special moves.
I prefer simply having punch, a couple of kicks and the trade mark move "Grab opponent by the shoulders and repeatedly knee him in the bollocks."
To be honest I think I should move this topic to the Gaming forum now. :D
-
 That was the side-scrolling older brother of Double Dragon iirc? Where you could pick up iron bars and things and hit your opponents with them?
And they think Video Game Violence is a new phenomenon....
-
Yep. That's the one. Level 2 involved beating up hookers and avoiding their gun toting pimp. :D
Somehow I doubt the game would secure anything below a 15 rating these days :D

You want to get to know one of freespace's ancestors?
Why don't you try googling "deepspace: operation copernicus" by sir tech software in the 80s?
