Title: Sync-quel?
Post by: Retsof on November 09, 2007, 10:11:23 pm
I recently played Sync and I loved the way it was "written".  I actually got attached to the characters.  As such I would like to see what happens next.  If not in a campaign at least a fanfic.  And please don't betray me like most authors by killing off whatever character you like the most!  And yes, I have played Trancend.

As far as I know, there is no true sequel to Sync or Transcend. All the campaigns Ransom has released and is working on are loosely related to each other. How, I have no idea.

RA said he'd do a sequel at some point.

Sync (if I recall properly)....kind of ties in the GTVA (in its early years) and through some crazy temporal paradox and just rotten luck....you LEAD the Shivans to attack the GTVA at the start of the 2nd war with them. I thought this was a neat story. He also said that the mystery ship you see in the first mission will be involved somehow later on.

Obviously, because it didn't do anything in the campaign except say "hay, guys! teh node is gonna collapse!" and then just make random appearances in the early missions. There has to be more to a mysterious ship than that!

The mystery ship was most likely the Transcendent, as it was a Pegasus. Go play his other campaign, Transcend and you'll see what I mean.

I have played Transcend.

I disagree that that ship is the Transcendant, but I do believe that it is something similar.

I think that the common consensus was that Beta 3 was the Transcendent, wasn't it. There was a thread on G-W that talked about it.

Adm. Aken Bosch is the Transcendent.

I was one of the people in that discussion, Cole.

And I believe the consensus (if indeed there ever was one) was that Phi 2 was the Transcendant, not Beta 3...

I knew that it was one of them.

Errr... you realize that second war is in a different timeline, right?  The Shivans are destroying 3rd Fleet HQ when you see them, which doesn't happen in the FS2 campaign.

Actually, first the Sync fleet arrives back to GTVA space through the Knossos and it seems that the Shivans followed them. Which would be a sort of explanation for how the Shivans managed to get to Gamma Draconis in the first place in the FS2 main campaign. Sort of. After this, the Sync activates again and the fleet gets thrown into the (presumably) Capella nebula. There, the Shivans take note of the Sync and steal the Sync in order to get their ships away from Capella, since the GTVA crushed the nodes leading out of Capella before the sin went supernova.

So, partially the storyline follows the FS2 main campaign, but still it's clearly an alternate universe with different events and such. And one must also take note of the fact that a lot of time passes, when the Sync is used.

Right? If anyone wants to disagree, feel free to do so.

For some reason, the Knossos is right next to 3rd fleet HQ, which is in Capella.

Not necessarily. They could have made any number of jumps between coming out of the Knossos and arriving at 3rd Fleet HQ.

And I disagree that the nebula at the end is Capella. There is a Knossos portal in that nebula. There isn't a Knossos in Capella.
Furthermore, for the nebula to have cooled down it would have to be several thousand years at least since Capella went boom. I know Sync can presumably time-warp things that far, but the Terrans on the other side of the Knossos were using FS2-era tech, so obviously they are still in the same time period.

3rd Fleet HQ is in Capella. Look behind you in that mission. Knossos. I'm not saying that the nebula was in Capella. I'm saying that the portal therein led to Capella.

I get the feeling that we are refering to different missions.

I was referring to the mission where they just got back from the nebula beyond GC, and they realize that the year is 2367. Not the final mission.

Also: that station in the final mission, I don't think it was 3rd Fleet HQ. Where does it say that that installation is 3rd Fleet HQ.

I'm talking about the last mission. It says that the installation is 3rd Fleet HQ in the comm chatter.
