Hi there
Sorry to bother you all, but i'm not sure how to even view the units and models on the Fred2 Open even to the latest one.
The retail Fred2 just works fine, and all the other components of Fred2 Open as well. All you can see is black.
Cheers

What computer do you have? Especially what Graphics card? How up to date are your drivers?
Oh and just to be sure make sure you've turned on view models from the view menu. I vaguely recall helping someone with a similar problem which ended up simply being due to the fact that they had models, grid lines and labels turned off. :)

Hello Karajorma
I kinda tried already the all the view options, I read it in the Freespace Oracle.
Uh, my graphics card is Direct 3D Primary Display driver, and my com. is a windows xp about 60GB hard disk space left.
Hope this is sufficient, thanks.
-
I need to know which card you have. I think jr2 has a program in his sig that will tell you the specs of your machine.
-
Hahaha . . . I'm like the biggest idiot of them all.
Okay, please just wait - im gonna check it off first.
I'll come back to you soon.
-
It sucks when the FRED doesn't work at all. Methinks it could be driver related. Guess we'll see..
-
Well okay . . . here it goes. Maybe i'm wrong (DING-DONG!!)
Does a graphics card be called Direct 3-D and driver Primary Display Driver (640-480)?
That's what it says on the viewing mode on the Freespace2 setup.
-
Your graphics card will either be Intel Graphics, ATI or nVidia.
-
Oh YEAH. That's right. The graphics are Intel Graphics.
Thanks for that point
-
I need the model number though. It's likely an 8xx or 9xx model but I'd need to know which one before I could even begin to figure out what might be the problem.
-
My graphics card is a Pentium 4 dual-core (8xx) model. Hope that helps.
-
Sorry, I forgot to mention that i won't be able to reply for the next 4 days.
Thanks for your help so far.

Run this program. Tell us what type of graphics card you have.
Pentium 4 Dual-Core is your processor.
-
Okay . . . hopefully were are back on the track . . .
Yeah, thanks for the progam - finally i know.
So here it is: NAME - Mobile Intel (R) 945M Express Chipset Family
GPU - i945GM
TECHNOLOGY - Unknown
DRIVER VERSION - igdkmd32. sys 7.14.10. 1147 / Vista
DIRECT X SUPPORT - 9.0 / SM2.0
There's tonnes more information on the graphics card but these are the bits of information that I think that is the most relevant.
-
Hmmmmm. That card should be able to deal with FRED2_Open. It was only the earlier Intel Graphics that couldn't IIRC.
That said if you're running on Vista it could simply be a case of old drivers.

Check there. Select your operating system from the list and install the newer drivers on your machine. These drivers are from the 14th of last month so they are probably newer than the ones you have at the moment.

AWESOME!
Thanks SOOOO much, 'cause now I can like, after AGES of trying can work FRED_Open3.6.9
Nice, I can really start working on my Immortal Wars campaign trilogy!! :D
