Title: Perhaps a unique OpenAL problem
Post by: pecenipicek on November 24, 2007, 09:04:11 am
So, yesterday i downloaded FS2 thru turey's installer...

OpenAL not included in download...  fine. i download it thru the official creative's page.

I set generic software on audio.

Click run... You need OpenAL 1.1 installed..

fine. i go and purge the system32 folder of ct_oal, nvopenal and nv_oal. all that is left is OpenAL32.dll and wrap_oal.dll. i purge wrap_oal, open the launcher and there's no options for sound apart from "no sound". i reinstall the drivers, wrap_oal and openal32.dll are there. fine. open launcher, select generic software, click run, and again... "You need OpenAL 1.1 installed to be able to use sound" or something to that effect...

what?

nothing helps.
i've got a nforce2 mobo, but for audio, i'm not using nvidia's drivers, but realteks most recent ones.

When you say you reinstalled the drivers do you mean the realtek ones? Cause there's a reasonable chance they went and stuck the OpenAL 1.0 drivers back on your system.

Sweep through again.

Stick those two files in your FS2 folder and see what happens.

browsing thru an error log... this interesting thing came up

(it was a crash unrelated to the audio, was trying the 3.6.10 build with normal map support)

C:\Igre\FS2\OpenAL32.dll, loaded at 0x00320000 - 21504 bytes - 40b3cf77 - file date is 5/25/2004 14:58:00

the file date is way off, if i'm not mistaken, no? but i downloaded the oalinst.exe from the official site so... errm. what happened? it did work before tho on the same computer with the same audio drivers...

kara, could you zip up the dll's you have and mail them to me on pecenipicek [at] gmail.com ?

[edit]... what the heck... i've just checked the driver versions, OpenAL32.dll version 6.14.357.22 is the one i should have, however, it reports i have this: 6.14.0442.30

probably just a messed up dl...  i'll try redownloading the installer...

that fixed it. it was wonky installer download... but, i've downloaded from this site (http://developer.creative.com/articles/article.asp?cat=1&sbcat=31&top=38&aid=46) both times.... bleeh. it sucks XD

the audio works now.
