Title: Your title
Post by: colecampbell666 on November 25, 2007, 09:25:17 am
How'd you get your title?
Title: Re: Your title
Post by: Mobius on November 25, 2007, 09:39:28 am
Who knows... :rolleyes:

I only know that my title isn't correct :P

Do something fantastically useful for the community and you'll get a title as a badge of honour.

Do something fantastically stupid and you'll get a title as a badge of shame.

Or join a mod project and get a generic title. :p

You forget titles connected to the nickname, like Nuke's Ka-Boom, my old Back where he started and Snail's old SC 5(Escargot 5 :lol:).

I helped create the place, so I got mine because I picked it :p

Ok. There are 5 types of User Titles:

1) Those related to the name, like Nuke's "Ka-Boom" and my old "Back where he started";

2) Those related to stupid and/or funny episodes, like Snail's "Would jump off a cliff too", thesizzler's "Think then post" and my new "Rainbow Brite";

3) Those related to important contributions like taylor's "SCP/Linux Guru" and Karajorma's old "Academy Headmaster";

4) Those related to MODs, like Axem's "Star Wars Conversion";

5) Those related to absolutely nothing, like Goober's "91st Phantoms, GTI"(:P);

my title is somewhat dignified though i dont know when or how i earned it

Simple...an Administrator notices a member, realizes that he's popular...and decides to write a title.

That's what I do elsewhere...:rolleyes:

You forget titles connected to the nickname, like Nuke's Ka-Boom,

Nuke's Ka-Boom is probably more tied into his affinity towards and constant advocation for ending the world in a hellish nuclear apocalypse. :p

So? System crashes and scrap-spree of missions also justified my "Back where he started". I considered it a curse, not an User Title! :mad:

Do something fantastically useful for the community and you'll get a title as a badge of honour.

Do something fantastically stupid and you'll get a title as a badge of shame.

Or just have a bored moderator, which is how I got this one.

My first was the stupidity one though. "You're an admin, go do something admin-y." Title: Bak[h]a.

I don't get it. Bak[h]a?

I'm guessing something like this: Bakha is the Vasudan bomber we all know. Baka (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E3%81%B0%E3%81%8B) on the other hand is a japanese word.

Post by: CP5670 on November 25, 2007, 02:36:03 pm
I got mine from a bug in the initial version of my campaign that made one mission a little too hard for Goober to handle. :D

The #2 titles are more common than the other types these days, much more so than they once used to be. That's either a reflection on the current group of admins or on the current forum population. :D

Do something fantastically useful for the community and you'll get a title as a badge of honour.

Do something fantastically stupid and you'll get a title as a badge of shame.

note that it doesn't always work. What is useful or stupid can be very subjective...
Or as ngtm1r said... admins/moderators can get bored...or vindictive..or they might feel particulary funny/inspired...or they might owe you a favor.
so basicly the rule is - there is no rule.
but stay here long enough and get noticed and you're bound to get a title - for better of for worse :P

Can't help it tough - I'm made of 100% awesome. :cool:

My title was bestowed upon me to commemorate my awesomeness being expressable only in the form of 2^11 power, utilizing a quadratic equation to plot the future exponential growth of my awesomeness to a logarithmic scale while taking thermodynamic entropy into consideration, expressible by the sum of two cubes divided by the quantum constant as outlined by the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen Principle of Awesomeness of Suprequantum Structures by Induction Through Nonlinear Transuranic Crystal of Extremely Long Wavelength Pulse from Mode-Locked Awesomeness Array.

Look, it's all very complicated, but rest assured that my title clearly indicates how utterly awesome I am. :)

Funny, I though that it meant that you had over 2048 posts. Shows how stupid and ignorant I am, oh great one.

What do you mean by "Shiny! Let's be bad guys!"?

It's a quote from quite possibly the greatest television series and movie that has ever existed and will ever exist. I will say no more than that.

He means you need to see Serenity.
I got my title the same way Mefustae did except it's an expression of cool-points rather than awesomeness.

Well, Node Wars moved from here to an0n's domain 4 years ago, but I still got the title.

5) Those related to absolutely nothing, like Goober's "91st Phantoms, GTI"(:P);
Why would I give myself a title related to absolutely nothing?

I would change category 5 to "Titles self-selected by admins, usually to promote something they're involved in."  I chose mine to promote Silent Threat: Reborn, just like I chose "47th Red Shirts, NTF" back in 2002* to promote Deus Ex Machina.  Kalfireth's title would fall under this category.  I bet Karajorma's would too, as I suspect he chose his based on his performance in the religious debate threads. :)

*thanks to a forum glitch that allowed moderators, not just admins, to select their own titles

do i even have a title

oh i was banned, and then unbanned and then someone fudged up the black "UN" infront of the BANNED (unbanned for you nits) and changed it to all white not banned, which i thought was lame.

It's up to the admins / perhaps moderators, too... gives them something to do.

The problem with your avatar is that it is related to Silent Threat: Reborn :P

Wait a second...why don't we use this thread to find a nice title for our Uber-Admininistrator(Latin)? :P

It's an Apollo with a Flux Capacitor. Ironically enough it was straight after Goober got that Avatar that we had the great Gamespy Clock Screwup where everyones posts were appearing in the wrong place in threads etc :)

Mine is errr.... My screen-name, only flipped.... though at a glance it looks like 'asplode!$#'

Alas, no real title for me =(

I suspect it may become something along the lines of "Tomorrow = 2 weeks from now" if I don't get a little more timely in my FSCRP work :P

I wish I would get a title for modeling the subspace drive:Here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,50451.0.html)

I was thinking along the lines of Inventor of Subspace. :D

Why would you get a title for an untextured, WIP subspace drive? :p

Title: Re: Your title
Post by: Hades on November 26, 2007, 05:04:15 pm
I don't know!
But I bet you couldn't make one. :p
EDIT:There is no way I can get maps for the subspace drive.
There are no close up shots of it for me to get textures.
EDIT2:I bet the mods are gonna play a mean trick on me soon...

In the command briefing of Black Omega, or one of the other FS Altair rescue missions. And I can't make one yet. :drevil:

EDIT: Yup, they probably are...

LOL, like 4 edits in a row.

I'm not too ashamed of mine. Mostly because, ironically, most of my bumped threads were on purpose, and I knew that a good portion of my posts made me seem like some retard.

Fifth, they changed it back again.

Yeah, on my request.

I was hoping for a non-insultive title one of these days, like back in the old days.
It's not like I don't pull my own weight in this community - quite the opposite :P I'm constantly busy with SOME FS related mod work - mostly for other people (little things, like a model for their campaign, tweaking something, adding pof data, making debris, helping out in another way) and than a bit for my own soul.  :D
Can't help it...I'm terrible at saying no  when I like the mod/idea even remotely.
