Correct if I'm wrong but I think I may have accidentally come across a new cheat in FS2.
Activating cheat mode (typing www.freespace2.com in-mission) and then using shift-comma resulted in reducing the game 'speed' by half. Another press of this combo slowed it to a quarter.
Maybe this is an FSO feature....it's kind of like Bullet Time...in FreeSpace! I don't see it mentioned in the wiki under the cheats page.
Sorry if this is just a vanilla FS2/FSO thing that's already been mentioned; I did a search before posting this to check first.

Old news. I've heard previously that this time decompression, as you call it, is indeed possible once you've enabled the cheats.
-
Have you ever played Transcend? It uses time decompression.
-
Ah sorry, right. Yes I recall that Transcend did utilise it.
-
time expansion
-
it was coded into the SCP so that you could record game footage at 1/2 or 1/4 speed, then accelerate the playback to get a better quality
-
It-also-is-just-cool.

time expansion
Timeshift reference?
-
It's not a cheat. pressing Shift+, slows time, pressing Shift+. speeds it up. It's not a cheat, it is an SCP feature, and one of Retail FS2.
-
you need to have cheats enabled in order to activate it so that you dont accidentially slow too far when returning from having it compressed
-
I don't really understand what you meant, but I never have to enable cheats to slow or speed up.

No, it's just a little easier on the tongue than time decompression. ;)

Try not running the debug build then.
-
I don't. As I said, it works in Retail, FS2: Colossus, and FSO.

There will be a campaign that makes use of Bullet Time soon (as a core feature)... :) :) :)

Not to slow down time it doesn't. In retail there was x1, x2 and x4, in SCP there's x1, x2, x4, x8, x16, x32, x64 IIRC. And if you use cheats, you get x0.5 and x0.25
-
It would be a neat trick if you've got slowdown working on retail as it's an SCP feature. :p
-
Any chance we can get x0.125 or x0.0625? ;)
