desktops can tell alot about a person. like what games they play and what work they do.
what can you guess from mine?
-
That... you have an Nvidia card, aren't at work, keep your pr0n hidden, and you actually liked Naboo Starfighter enough to keep it. Also, you don't cover your desktop with icons, either because you don't have much on your computer or you really like seeing that desert background.
Here's what I spend most of my internet time with.

you really like seeing that desert background.
that's true. the rest isn't.
That's battle for naboo, not starfighter.
I don't have any p0rn :blah:
what I can guess from yours: you go to school.
-
You can't really tell anything from mine. It's about as barebones as they come. :p

CP5670 has ATi graphics card as far as I can tell. His timezone is apparently GMT -5, which means most likely EST -> physical location most likely in eastern US. He probably studies or works with something that requires understanding of university level mathematics, because there's no real need for Mathematica otherwise (unless he's using it for fun). From that it could be possible to assume that he's studying in some of the eastern US university towns. He does like to keep the desktop clean.
Well, here's mine at the moment... :p

Yeah I have that and it's sequel/prequel "Battle for Endor"
*EDIT* Oh and I'd post mine but this is a works computer and I might get in trouble for it! :P When I fix my interweb connection at home I might post a screenie, if this thread is still active that is!
-
Hmm, so Herra is using a text-only terminal? How ascetic of you! :P
Heh, well, shouldn't be too hard to guess where I am...

Pretty good deductions, although I think all that is already known from my previous posts around here. :p I keep nothing on the desktop since I practically never have it visible. I find it more convenient to launch all my exes directly from Turbo Navigator, an explorer-like program, than worry about setting up and organizing the icons.
I use Mathematica mainly as a place to doodle notes and stuff, as it's much faster and cleaner than writing on paper (or using some TeX variant, for that matter). I'm reviewing some material for a PhD qualifying exam at the moment.
-
Hmm, so Herra is using a text-only terminal?
Putty works fastest when I only need a text terminal... And I do have WinAxe when I want to use X11 tunneling to use programs with graphic interface, which doesn't happen very often. Besides, most of the school's Unix computers are used mainly from a terminal even at the school...
Although, when I really need to do more stuff using the school's computers from home, I boot to Linux first for obvious reasons...
I suppose that desktop is of a school computer or something like that?
->CP - I tried to keep to the information derived from the desktop only, but obviously some assumptions may inevitably be coloured by what little I already knew - although I didn't really know that much either.
EDIT: Just for fun, I might as well post this as well... :p

From Herra Tohtori's desktop it can be deduced that he is one of those who rely on Comodo Firewall. Also, that icon of the 2.4 Comodo Firewall politely suggests that he is running XP with some Vista-looking effects/themes. Or at least I've understood that only 3.0 works in Vista.
We,, here's mine. Deduce what you want.

you watch tv on your computer.
and what is orion?
-
That's mine. Note I'm at school, and this is such a small school that I don't want to post its name yet.

TV? Oh, that Season 5 thingie... um, I can assure you it's completely legitimate. *cough* Stage6 *cough*. And Orion is an IRC client.

Good catch there. :p
You're likely using a laptop or alternatively you have a 1280x800 widescreen TV as a monitor.
You use Paint.NET as image editing software (at least for saving print screens), VLC as a media player and your Windows installation is Finnish (like mine). You're apparently also subscriber to Campusbaana Internet connection.
-
You use Paint.NET as image editing software (at least for saving print screens)
How the hell did you manage to deduce that? It's absolutely correct. As are the rest. A laptop yes, VLC for videos, and, well, the Finnish part is natutally true. Campusbaana is the name of the Internet connection that I can get from my local ISP, who happen to have a deal with my landlord. That's a free 5/3MB connection right there.
-
I cheated. :p

What the hell? There is another FS2 freak around here?

Dang, you win this time. I just found that feature myself.
What the hell? There is another FS2 freak around here?
What the...? Where are you?
-
I'm located in the capital of the Northern Middle Finland, and during my studying times I used the same internet connection.
I could also post my desktop here, but there is too much po... yes, pollution of icons on my desktop, so I wont until I have cleaned it up.

@jr2 and sizzler: How much of that stuff is pirated?
Umm... Let's see. None of it that I can see... besides Windows itself. (I have a legal XP Pro copy, but refuse to use it XD .)
Oh, and sizzler, where can I get that Desktop? /me does want.

Here's a little tip for you jokers - THUMBNAILS (Not that I care, I have a good connection, but I remember how it was before I got it)

/me does too
And why did you pirate Windows?
-
Long story... suffice it to say, the XP Pro that I had kept wanting to be activated.... every time the computer was restarted!!. I'd had about enough of that, so I just pirated it.
-
I've heard that some people (Nuke, I'm looking at you) pirate it because surprisingly (or not) it has fewer bugs.
-
Hmm... perhaps that's true. I'd consider re-activating at every system start a bug. :wtf:
EDIT: Jeeez..jr2, Darius, Herra Tohtori, Rictor, Shade, TrashMan and 1 Guest are viewing this topic.
Everyone grab the ChatZilla (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/16) plugin for FireFox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/) and click on "HLP IRC Channel" at the top of the page. XD

@Bob-san: What is that? Windows 3.1? :P
Jump off a cliff, Snail. :P
I decided that I didn't like any Windows XP themes so I went with a tried and true Win98 approach. If it was Win3.11 (which I have, in case you're wondering), you'd have a triangle in the left corner of every window. Ahhh--those were the days. I still have a Win3.11W "rig" running--I didn't build it but it is still running... SimCity 2000. From the time it just sits there and ticks down, the years have been reset at LEAST 3 times.

I rounded up.

I have the best desktop pattern of all of you. Very political... :P
From that I can gather that you have an ATI vid card, have XP Pro, are NOT religious, dabble in photoshopping (GIMP) and possibly have an older PC (low memory usage XP)
-
What makes you think he has an old PC?
-
Cause he has low memory usage set, to save on memory usage. If he's doing this, chances are he has an older PC that requires this.
-
I just hit Win+R, then type in \games\freespace2\launcher (using auto-complete to help along the way)... mainly because the shortcut to FSO is "Launch FreeSpace2 Open" instead of "FreeSpace2 Open", so pressing the F key doesn't select it... which, now that I've mentioned it, I've fixed. :p I suppose I could make a hotkey to it, but I don't want to accidentally launch it from the middle of another game or FS2 itself by accident.

I don't like clutter...

It couldn't possibly be just because he doesn't have a lot of memory... nope. Not possible

I do have an older PC, but even if I had a new one I'd still have XP reduced to barebones. Who gives a flying *** if the OS looks pretty so long as it works? =)
Besides, I'm a performance geek.

I would love it if all of the game devs decided to code their PC games for a third party OS that was specifically designed for playing games.

Hold the insults there.
Firstly there is no shame in using IE. Secondly, look at the Firefox icon to the right of his start bar...
-
It's not really insulting, sorry if it came out that way, and He uses IE the most because it's at the top of his commonly used programs list.
