Title: Free file hosting
Post by: redsniper on December 08, 2007, 02:51:32 am
I need some. MyDataBus apparently doesn't do free accounts anymore and some people want to download the effects I made (who knew?). So where's a good site that I can upload them and they'll stay for a while?

www.rapidshare.com | www.mediafire.com

I thought rapidshare was only temporary.

If you can get me the file I don't care to host it.

How big a set are we talking about? If less than 28 megs, you can upload them to a temporary solution like Rapidshare. Then, I can download them and upload to Useful Stuff. That webspace remains as long as I maintain my magazine subscription, and that, I can guarantee, is quite a long time.

Ah, you're right, RapidShare does delete after no access for 90 days... MediaFire doesn't: here (http://support.mediafire.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=2&nav=0)

It happens... usually, with a degree of civil-ness & thought, it can be worked out.

FileFront is OK, but it doesn't like Firefox.

I've never had a problem using Filefront, and I only use Firefox.  What issue are you having?

The "Multiple Connections" error.

Don't use a download manager with FileFront... use FF's built in download window (the one that comes with vanilla FF).  And, FileFront deletes your files after a certain (or uncertain (http://support.filefront.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=53) time).

Strange... I have no problems downloading from them... what version of FF do you have?  2.0.0.11?

Yup. And apparently newer (post-2.0.0.5) versions of FF have addon problems. (DL Statusbar doesn't work)

Answers (doesn't work)
ChatZilla
ChromaTabs
FasterFox
Flashgot
Free Download Manager
Gmail Manager
Google Browser Sync
Google Web Accelerator
IE Tab

Certain addons don't seem to work with the new versions of FF (2.0.0.5 on)

Not once it's started.... takes about 20-30 seconds to start up (more or less, I'll time it and get back to you).

Look in my sig under "Optimize"... defrag your %homepath%\Application Data\Mozilla\ and %programfiles%\Mozilla Firefox directories with Power Defrag.

I see you use FireFTP as well, bloody handy tool, no need to start booting up FTP clients or the like :)

Yeah... it's not something I use regularly, I actually use FileZilla for most FTP stuff, but FireFTP is useful for a quick connection, especially as part of my Firefox Portable profile.
