Quote
A Santa in an Australian department store said on Wednesday he has been fired for saying "ho ho ho" and singing Christmas songs to children. Employment company Westaff, which supplies stores with red-robed, white-bearded Father Christmases, had earlier asked its Santas to say "ha ha ha" because the word "ho," which is American slang for whore, could offend women, media reported.

In the latest incident, the Cairns Post newspaper said 70-year-old John Oakes was fired on Monday for saying "ho ho ho" and for singing the Christmas song Jingle Bells.

"They're trying to kill the spirit of Christmas," said Oakes, a retired entertainer who has been a Santa for three years.

Westaff spokesman Bert Jansz told the paper Oakes had been dismissed because of his attitude, and not for his ho ho ho-ing.

I get the feeling that the whole story isn't there (they say he was fired for his attitude, but they never mention what this "attitude" was)... but wtf about "ho ho ho"? Everyone knows that Santa laughs like that, how could it possibly be misconstrued as a slang term for whore? :wtf:

 :wtf:

It's not like speech bubbles actually come out of Santa's mouth reading "Ho ho ho". It's a fracking onomatopoeia about how laughter is perceived to be heard.

I mean, he could've easily claimed he was laughing like "oh oh oh" and it would sound exactly the same, deep bellowing laughter.

Perhaps it was his attitude though, I bet we don't know the whole story... :blah:

I don't know what's worse: the utter stupidity of prohibiting Santa from laughing or that the "War on Christmas" crackpots are starting to sound credible.

Happy Hon-Denominational Festive Season everyone!

Both, the war against Christmas has gotten so bad here in Virginia that I'm scared to death to say Merry Christmas to anybody for fear that I'll start the next war on terror. And if I don't say Merry Christmas the religious right here get so mad they want to crucify me. I'm damed if I do and damed if I don't, so I have come to the conclusion that human stupidity will never reach its peak.

I'd suggest coal in a sock. But as a weapon not a present.

I have a really big tube sock that my daughter used to wear that comes all the way up to the knee :)
And I'm sure that one of the schools around here in town has some coal left around somewhere

- "You've all been very, very naughty indeed! Except you, Dr. Zoidberg. This is for you."
- "A pogo stick!"
- "As for the rest of you, I'm going to tear off your skin like wrapping paper and deck the halls with your guts! "
