Title: Guide to installing new voices
Post by: nubbles526 on December 13, 2007, 09:03:19 am
After looking through 124+ pages of info, I still wasn't able to find a guide on how to install the voice files. (Proving Microsoft may sometimes be unhelpful)

You now when you press 'Spech', there is button on the bottom saying 'Additional Voices'. So downloaded it, and what do I do next?

If you want to get only the Mike and Mary voices redistributable for Windows XP, download Mike and Mary redistributables (Sp5TTIntXP.exe).

Sounds fairly self-explanatory.

The problem is, the .exe turned out to be a .zip self extractor.

Hmmmm. The old version had an exe that actually installed the voices. Hmmm. this will have to be fixed then cause there's no point sending people to the MS site if the install of new voices is complicated.

You're not missing much BTW though. Mary and Mike are only marginally better than Sam.

Well Microsoft replace Sam with <something> in XP, and then with Anna in Vista. And Microsoft Anna sounds more human, but a lot of the pronouciation is wrong.

I'll see if there is an old exe of that file. The files extracted were MSM files.
