Remember the Ptah?

well, back in the day i made a high resolution texture for it, but was thwarted, as the shinemap was critically misaligned, and i couldn't finish it, as it never looked just right.
Now i have come back to it, and it is time to make a high polygon model of the Ptah, so it can look as good as all the other ships, as well as utilize normal maps and properly aligned shine and envmaps.
Now, i have set up the high polygon model goal, you may ask, "what is all this about redesign?"
well, apart from the top plates, the Ptah looks like a floating greeble pile underneath. My goal is to redesign the undersurfaces of the ptah into a mechanical understructure, holding the plates and underside glowy bits, that still conforms to the original design.

the areas in red will be remade, the areas in blue will be mostly kept, and will be the focus for the new understructure.
this will be my winter break project.

mostly that first post was to see if anyone cared that i'd be gutting the ptah and replacing those guts with cooler looking guts, but so far i see no angry reactions.
designs have started.

I actually think you get more praise when working on HTL models than when making a campaign (unless it's like PI or BP).

I got the head mostly mapped and started on the rear, but I just don't have the drive to continue ATM. :blah:

here you can see my 'skeleton with plates' idea getting modelled.
saving the face plates for later, as they're going to be the hardest ones, for sure.

eh, this is a rough model draft mostly.
once i have a better idea of what i am really going to do, i'm probably going to delete it all and start over.
generally makes for better geometry.
Edit: woohoo! Hellgate patched today! (i had 2 bugged quests, lol) time for a break.
