Things are shaping up for the team as I have the base hero ships for my fanfic and use the FS2 engine to make combat scenes. Eventually they will emerge as mini-videos for youtube posting.
Step 1: Completed, base ships are Modified VF-1S (myself), vf-19 Kai Fire (Nekki Basara) from Macross 7, and F-302 (Teal'c) from Stargate SG-1.
Step 2: half completed, Merging test. Ships turn into balls of colored energy and combine from that point robot emerges. It worked out fine manually now I just need to refine it and make it automatic (probably with positioned dock points and increasing the area of glow as they do all turn white when combined just as I like.
Step 3: Ship Evolution completed. Ships turn into forms more similar to the hero ships of the original G series. Not going for accuracy, but more for feel with a new interpretation. Turned out pretty well I think. Textures are merely a dual base for unit two and unit three has none at all other than a general base color wrap.
Step Four: Under development. Have a few robots for testing purposes only and not for final use. End result will need 4-5 versions posed for diff scenes/uses in combat or staging. Shadow0000's Getter Armageddon will prove useful for this.

These are placeholders as I like the blue but will need to tweak the red and yellow more as the base effect seems too washed out for my purposes.

when the three colors merged they turned white which is the effect I wanted anyway so no need to change anything and just put the warp in point at area of convergence.

I am thinking base to energy, then to hero and then to energy again and then robot.
In the video mix in anime scenes of the ships merging and nanotech emerging forming the missing parts, reconfiguring the ships etc...
Will shoot for a redesigned version of this 1976 mecha:
