Title: Women of HLP
Post by: Sasquatch on December 16, 2007, 09:52:12 pm
This may have been a topic at one point, but I am just curious, are there any women here?

They all left a while ago. IIRC Sector Game has one or two.

There have been a few over the years, and I think Wild Fragaria still posts here on the odd occasion, but if there are any women active on the boards at this moment, they are wise enough to not make an issue of it ;)

Sapphire from before my time, and Wild used to drop in now and then. Then there was Ferret. That's about all I can think of off the top of my head, which is in itself pretty pathetic.

But sizzler has a point, most have since left for Sectorgame following the Great Format Shift and the following upheavals. And i'd be inclined to agree with Flip; most if not all probably just keep their head down for logical reasons.

Well, one reason to have women here is for voice acting, unless you know a unic that hangs around.  Besides, there are some of them at my school that are just as nerdy as us.

The ones I remember are:

-Tiara
-Wild Fragaria
-(Mr. Steak's girlfriend, can't remember her username)
-Aunt_Thrax
-Sapphire (who seems to have disappeared ever since ShadowWolf did)

I know we have another couple floating around, including one or two that I was surprised to find out were females.

Actually, I let a female friend share this account for most of my time here, but she's finally registered her own. I don't think she's posted under the name, though -- she is a bit of a lurker. (I have not seen any posts by 'Rian', but she is registered.)

thanks man :)

actually pretty good.  i'm trying out a 2008 CTS for the next few days.  it's got 305HP, so it's not near as fast as what i'm used to (my CTS-V), but apparently next year they're coming out with the 2009 CTS-V, which will be something like 600HP, all-wheel drive, supercharged.  i'm considering getting that.

the 2008 i'm driving at the moment is a pretty slick car.  i'll go outside and snap some pics for you :)

Yeah I see there is a new 2009 version that really looks superb.  It seems that with the CTS GM has got Cadillac back in the runnings for making some pretty wicked cars which is really good to hear (and see).

Looking around at cars right now actually...but not yet decided on anything (can't be anything as nice as yours).  I've reached the point of having done too much research and I need to let things sink in.  Still working the same job as I have been for almost three years now but they keep having to pay me more and maybe I'll move up in position at some point so thats always nice.  Nothing else too exciting...just keeping things going along.
Title: Re: Women of HLP
Post by: Stealth on December 18, 2007, 12:59:53 pm
Well what i did, and what i'd encourage anyone to do, is i saved up first, before buying the car.  when i bought it, i paid cash for it.  that way, if i trade it in, i only owe a very small amount (a few thousand $).  it was hard saving up for a year and a half or so, but hey :-/

i'm telling you IceFire.  one day, some 5-10 years from now, we'll all get together, and we'll all be successful :)

Let it rest, last thing we need is another row over who makes the best cars, it's no better than an XBox360 / PS3 argument, it all boils down to personal taste.

Just because Davros had to go there, doesn't mean you do.

Anyway, i mean what i said IceFire... one of these days (years) we need to get the VW guys togther.  take a road trip and meet up in some central location :)

There worst thing is I'd actually be willing to borrow somebody's name for a main character; I can't seem to devise a decent one, for something I'm working on. Or at least a last name, I'm pretty dead-set on the first name being Silva.

Do a Google search on baby names. You'll easily find more lists than you can shake a stick at. Often organised by sex, country of origin and with meanings (so you can add little in-jokes).

Well, to be honest, the entire forum focus, a space-based shooting game is pretty much associated with young males. It's kind of odd, I don't doubt there are girls out there who like a good shoot 'em up as much as any guy, but it's really living out that 'little boy' fantasy of being Buck Rodgers, a simple 20th century guy who can somehow instantly outfly experienced pilots in a battlefield he's completely unused to flying in ;)

I have to address this because it's wrong.

Cars are not all the same. Aesthetically, yes it's a matter of taste. Mechanically it's simple hard facts. Handling, acceleration, safety, consumption, etc...

I trust I've made my point.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I played Half-Life when I was in first grade. I was so scared; I was like "My goodness, where's the suicide key?" and my brother would be like "You're not stuck" and I'd reply "Yeah but look: Everybody is dead. No way I'm getting out of here alive, and I don't want to be mauled by some zombie."

Then I played FS2 in ~2000, when I was in 3rd grade or so. I got to the second to last mission (Bastion escort mission) and said "I give up this is taking to long". Of course I didn't know it was the second to last mission at the time, nor did I read any of the briefings.

Anyway, I'm glad that video games are fun for people all ages. Unfortunately, tetris is enough of a horror story for my mother, and my father is obsessed with crystal quest. I remember a while ago this guy came on and he was a grandfather, and he was getting FSO set up as a suprise for his grandson or something.

Same as me in that respect, remember, I myself am outside the 'Young Male' range at 35 ;)

The thing is, everyone has an anecdote about someone who is older and plays on their computer, because everyone must have an exception to prove the general rule ;)

However, I will add that young males should not be confused with 'kids', that's a mistake politicians often make.

That's interesting, because most reviews I've seen rate it really good.

Even the biased-against-any-and-all-american-cars Top Gear gave it top marks on performance and handling.  They had things to say about the interior, buttons on the dash, etc. but they couldn't fault its performance/handling... even against the RS4.

Trust me... before I buy a $54,000 car, I do research too.  not for a few hours or days, but for months.  i don't look up a few videos of it, and read some reviews online, i'll go drive one for a week before i make a decision. i have test driven hundreds of cars, and owned more than i can count on my fingers, everything from the all powerful Supra and trans am ws6, to a lowly mitsubishi mirage.

so don't judge me, or question me. please.  you can have your opinion, but i've got mine too... and when i buy cars, it's MY judgement and opinion i go by. :)

About the only game my dad ever played was Rogue Squadron 3D. We had a competition to see who could beat it. He brought home FS1 and I never touched it for 2 years, as the case looked boring. I was looking through the old CDs in 2000 and I picked it out. Actually reading the case I tried it. I bought a joystick for the sole purpose of playing FS1, and lo and behold it came with FS2: Colossus.

I remember trying out FS when I was fairly young and thinking, "Man, this is totally unrealistic.  The ships don't move like they're in space, and their are way too slow for this to even be in atmospheric flight.  This game sucks."  And years later when fsscp was born, I played through the game and loved every bit of it.  Weird huh?

er... "m" stands for meter not mile and 50 mi/s would be 289 681.92 kph according to google calculator anyways.

He means metres, and it's a bit lower than that....

50M * 60s = 3000M per minute = 3km per minute

3km * 60m = 180km/h

I was actually surprised that Top Gear liked it as much as they did.  Sarcastic and witty comments aside they really did like it overall (except for the dinging) ...but these guys are paid to not like every car unless it completely blows them away.  I'd say that is high praise enough.  But generally speaking reviews do seem to be quite positive on the CTS...I was impressed.

But my price range is down in the Honda Civic, Mazda3, etc. territory.  Probably end up with a Civic...its a Canadian thing to do :)

People seem to be...I'm stuck between the Mazda3 and Civic...the 3 has more style and a bit more sporting but there are several issues with it that I'm aware of and I have to wait for the mid year refresh because the current versions do not play MP3/WMA CD's (a key point for me :)) on the deck without an expensive upgrade...but thats fixed in the slightly upgraded 2008 and a half.  The Civic I like but its not as stylish, the color choices aren't as good, and I'm still not 100% on the digital speedometer.  Its not just tacked on...its very deliberate to make it easily viewable without having to look down but I'm not completely sold on that yet.  I think if I could have both put together I'd be happy :)

I do quite like this years Civic EX-L with leather heated seats, sun roof, all wheel disc breaks...and its very affordable as Canadian prices go considering the options.  I need to go to the next autoshow and sit in everything and just see.  Then do some driving again (I've already done test drives about a year back).

This post alone is evidence why the fair sex would avoid the general forum.

WHAT!?

did you see what kind of offer I made!?!?

if I were a female i would use my woman tricks to make everyone build a huge campaign!

generally its a bad idea for a woman to enter any male dominated situation without a can of mace.

But my price range is down in the Honda Civic, Mazda3, etc. territory.  Probably end up with a Civic...its a Canadian thing to do :)

yeah and if it's an american car, they VERY rarely have anything good to say.

about the dinging.... by the way.... i've owned the CTS-V for 6 months now, and i've driven it ~12,000 miles.  In all that time, i think there was probably only one time where it "dinged"... and that was when i opened the car door, and unbuckled myself, with the key still in the ignition.  i'm GLAD it dinged, because i was going to close the door with the keys in the car.

...not to mention you can turn the dinging off VERY easily ;)

actually, IceFire, i'd take the Civic over the Mazda3 in a heartbeat.  i'm not the biggest fan of the mazda3, but civics are still awesome :)

And nobody remembered Borealis....

Serves her right for being inherantly evil.

And I miss Tiara :(

She was supposedly hot - despite me and Kam continuing to hold suspicions she was simply TCO in drag.

Last we heard she broke both her legs in a car accident and never came back.

She might still be at SpaceBattles though. I can't check her account acitivity, due to not having an account there.

ahh yeah!  Borealis.

Tiara posted at least one picture of herself an0n, i remember it... the one of her and her fiance at the time (TCO - TheCelestialOne i think?) at a table with lays around their necks.

waaaaaaaaay back.

She did actually post a picture once IIRC.

Seem to be leaning that way.  I still think the Mazda3 has better styling and possibly more sporty handling versus the top fuel economy, safety, and still a reasonably powered engine.

Hey, you guys are keeping the females away from her because you arent making campaigns names after them...

lets just call Inferno "Stacie" or some thing like that in hopes of attracting chicks named stacie to this forum

So much for "women". The only thing in this thread are cars....
When I looked at the topic I was expecting the 2008 calendar.   :D

Given the number of women who post on this board January would have been Japong's Horribly Wrong picture and it would have gone downhill from there. :p

*evil grin*

I think I just figured out why you're having girl problems.

That is quite honestly the dumbest thing I've heard in the past 3 days... and considering I've spent the past 3 days working at an international airport, that's quite a feat :P

true, true :/

when do you think you're going to be pulling the trigger?
Well I tried to pull the trigger on a Civic but I ran into an unforseen problem with the vehicle.  I don't fit properly.  Legs are too long and my arms are too short to make the steering wheel/pedals/seat work together properly without my knee being at a strange angle.  Ended the longer test drive with a nasty leg cramp...so...despite it being a good combination of things I think its out.  So looking at the Mazda3 and maybe the Subaru Impreza and the Saturn Astra...(same car as the Opel/Vauxhall for the Europeans out there).

vyper: That'd be the European Civic hatchback.  They don't sell those here.

Wow... just... wow. I just looked at the Canadian Honda website. That's one ugly ****ing car.

The Astra is a reasonably priced car, just don't expect it to feel very upmarket.

The ones I remember are:

-Tiara
-Wild Fragaria
-(Mr. Steak's girlfriend, can't remember her username)
-Aunt_Thrax
-Sapphire (who seems to have disappeared ever since ShadowWolf did)

I know we have another couple floating around, including one or two that I was surprised to find out were females.

Steak's friend was icespeed. I don't think she's been around here in ages... then again, I haven't really been around much either.

I clarified this earlier in the thread: I was sharing my account with a female.

She signed up for her own account, but mostly she lurks. The name is 'Rian'. I don't know if there's any way to access a list of all members so you can verify this.
