Title: Is there any FS2 profile for the Saitek X52?
Post by: Ferret on December 23, 2007, 05:16:04 pm
Hey everyone, my boyfriend got me a Saitek X52 joystick  for christmas (wheee) and I've been slowly trying to build up a decent profile for FS2 for use with it. But it's slow-going, there are so many choices and the config app leaves a lot to be desired.
If anyone has already got one that's good enough I'd be very happy, and it would save me a hell of a lot of time.

Thanks all! This joystick is awesome, I've already been playing Independance War 2 with it and I'm very happy...

Sorry, I had one for my X-45, an older but similar model I was going to offer as a partial template, but I've lost wherever I stored it before I switched old Shodan here to Vista. I wonder if the X-52 has improved on the laggy feel of the main flight control axis any? Less precise than the mouse but a lot more immersive - just been too lazy to set up the old thing.

Best of luck with your new toy!   :)

I made one a while back when I got mine. :)

It's got controls for GSE management, throttle, weapons (the slider toggles between single and double fire on missiles, etc), targeting, countermeasures, and shield quadrant management. Almost everything that's essential and that you need to work with during every mission is on this profile, and, at least for me, it's comfortable to use.

Congrats!  It will probably take both of you to run it!  IMO the X52 is a crew-served weapon.

The Cyborg Evo is about all I can handle.  The sheer number of controls on the X52 set is so staggeringly huge, I would probably starve to death in my own feces, whilst contemplating the sheer possibilities, long before I ever got around to playing FS2 with it.

Add a set of rudder pedals, and I would probably suffer brain-lock just from being in the same room with it.  :D

Hey thanks a bunch Cobra! I can't test it before I get back home, but does it have any controls for communication? I'm thinking of using one of the extra modes for comms and utilising the 6 toggly trigger things on the base for number selections.

No, sorry. I had planned that out at one point but I never got around to it. Wasn't sure how to set that up anyways.

I COULD see about whipping one up for you if you want. :)

Anybody have any EVO profiles?

Absolutely.  Mine is attached.  Had to put it in a 7zip file so the file filter would let it through.

The profile editor won't open it.

EDIT: Yes, I un-zipped it.

You're talking about the Cyborg Evo, right?  The profile works fine on my system, so I don't know what's wrong.

I would post the guts of the file, but unfortunately it's not in a human-readable format, which means you couldn't just copy & paste it into notepad and save it as a profile (*.dat file).

I got a .DAT, I tried to open it with the profile manager. I clicked the open button, selected Desktop, and there's no profile selectable.

EDIT: I click Open, I set filter to "All Files" and click the profile, "Failed to Open File".

Updated mirrors post to include Evo profile.  If someone *looks at Hellbender* could find their X45 profile, that'd be nice.  I have a extremely fast file searcher here:

MediaFire (http://www.mediafire.com/?6z91cc2sn32) | RapidShare (http://rapidshare.com/files/78880041/pdfind_pdh.exe)

Just extract those 2 files to the same directory & run pdfind.exe (the downloaded file is a 7-Zip SFX archive, so you can just run it).

You can search by file name or file contents or both, and you can also search within archives (I think, if not let me know).

FWIW, my Profile Editor software says it is version 4.3.3.1727.  I don't understand why someone else would not be able to open my profile (*.dat) files, but clearly at least one person is having that problem.

Make sure both Profile editors are the same version. Do a test on the .zip file to see if it's broken (from your end, cole... right-click > 7-zip > Test archive).

Hey guys, I've been having some issues customising Cobra's profile.
For instance I've got mode 2, fire button set to C, but in Freespace 2 it wont work. Out of Freespace 2 it's fine. I have mode 3 and fire set to alt+j and yep, it works out of FS2 but not in. The button just does nothing.

Also I've tried setting throttle bands to map to = and - keys, to use it for speed control, and it doesn't seem to work. Amazingly sometimes throttle forward seems to be changing the radar range.

I know how to get the bands system working as I've set the stick twisting to roll the ship. (numpad 7 and 9) and that works fine.

It seems that Freespace is grabbing some of the joystick controls and doing what it feels like with them. It's really confusing, anyone have any ideas?

I just tried them, they work for me. Check the controls in FS2 options?

Yes, some of the controls seem to be hard-coded.  I don't know exactly which ones, but I've noticed this in some mods, too.  For example, in The Minbari Project, you can't set Space to do anything.  It's permanently assigned to toggle inertial flight mode on and off.
