Hi. The last 3 months have had me working like crazy to finish my school work and not much time to do anything freespace related. Fortunately, I have found a couple of cool people and together we'll be doing our own mod! :D This is the fist model I've done (counting the other, crappy 10 min, practice, phailure models, this makes the third) and so I am extremely new. I have been doing well so far but now I am stuck. The model is sitting at 716 polies, unfinished and I can't decide what to add to the blank top space and blank back space. Do you guys have any Ideas that you think would give this model a desperately needed improvement (716 polies is low right ). Any help is appreciated. ;)

Screenshots would be helpful, too.

So would a format or two other than Blender so people who aren't using Blender can have a look at it. (Most people here use some version of trueSpace .cob or 3D Studio .3ds)

Agreed.. I missed Bizzy's comment it ws blend file. I thought I was Downloading a pack of screenies.
(I cant access .blend files)
Uploading a sceenshot to an image host (ie photobucked) and pastign a img link is more helpful.
a.) so people dont have to download anything.
b.) people are more visual and tend to get involved more if you have soemthing to show right away.
No, that;s not too low. The gunship I just posted has maybe 800 poly's max and looks high tech. It's how you used the poly's and what texture you cover them with.
Kt'hyla is like the Trashman of Klingon Academy (low poly king) ;7

Well, you should just both have blender then shouldn't you! :p
*runs*
Anyway, as to the ship, it's a great start! And really nice for a first model. Well done. :)

However, there are some poly errors and an oddity present - mostly just weird face connections that shouldn't be there. You can see them in wireframe:

As for recommendations, well remember that you can always add random greebles such as extrusions, fins, pipes, recesses and the rest. For overall shape features/development, here's mine:

I've attached a blend file where I've included the recommendation model along with a fixed geometry version of the original. A couple of other things to note is that I've deleted the duplicated half of the model and turned on the mirror modifier - the ideal way to do symmetrical modelling.
Something to note about that for future models is that it will mirror about the centre of the object - so you need to keep the centre (the floating pink dot thing) in the centre of the mesh or you'll end up with some scary looking results. :)
Also, I'd recommend you have a quick look to compare what the geometry in the red circles looks like in the original and the fixed versions, so you know the sort of thing to look out for in future models.
Still, well done. :)

Whoops! :o Sorry guys. I thought the .rar did have some screenies! My apologies.
Vasudan Admiral, are you really that godly or do you just feel like being awesome today in particular and I was in the right place at the right time? :P Thanks a bunch! Those annoying geometry things keep popping up (mostly because I'm new to blender) and I find one about every 30 minutes and squash it. You just saved me a bunch of time! I really love the wing greebles but I can't accept the new model. I just wouldn't feel right just taking the easy way and skipping a good hour of work. (plus the fact that everyone will be asking why I can't make any of my ships as good as the first one :ick:). I may however try to emulate the style ;). I heartily thank you for the fixed version and for going above and beyond the line to help and if I find some sort of karma feature, take it as a thanks from me!

That was the idea actually - just to show you visually the kind of changes I'd suggest rather than spending two hours trying to describe them and probably still failing. ;)
You have a very nice eye for greeble detail already - with some work I reckon you can quite easily surpass the detail I added there, and create a much more awesome version.

it looks a bit like a perseus valkeryie hybrid ;7
