So why don't you just tell him in RLTM what all the buttons mean? :P
-
Retsof likes sewer beams :p Welcome, Exits ar-*gets ban't by goob* Well anyway, enjoy your stay, and make sure to check out all the new campaigns if you havent already. BP and PI are my personal favorites so far

1. FSO turn on.
2. Player select.
3. Settings open.
4. Buttons see.
Unlike in all other games, in FreeSpace you can see which button does what from the Settings section. Spooky.

Is your name kankles abbreviated?

1. FSO turn on.
2. Player select.
3. Settings open.
4. Buttons see.
Interpolating from this point on...
What happen?
Someone set you up the bomb.
You are on your way to destruction.
You have no chance to survive make your time.
DIVE DIVE DIVE!
Enjoy the rest of your life with the cult of FreeSpace Open! We will swallow your soul, tear you down and devour you, rend your mind, and bring a plague down your Real Life in the form of all the time you're doomed to spend playing Bearbaiting again and again and again, until completing it perfectly on Insane.
RealLife is overrated anyway. Remember boys and <hopeful>girls</hopeful>, pretty much everything that came from Real (http://www.realnetworks.com/) sucks... and blows... at the same time.

What ever happened to the flame throwers under the seats that can only be used by the color blue?
-
People got sick of it.
Not to mention that it was being abused by people as some sort of competition rather than actually bothering to answer the question the original poster had registered to ask.
-
Hi Knkls. What buttons are you referring to? Lobo posted the way to start FSO.
If you want the flying controls, go into "Options" ingame, and select controls.

Freespace for dummies
1st open freespace, if this is too difficult, don't bother trying to play. Click the the door in the hiddle of the screen, it should say "Briefing room, this is where you start or continue a campaign"
Once it is finished loading, click keep pressing continue/next till you can start, I'll tell you how to change weapons later on.
I use the mouse, but you can use a joystick, or the num pad (the arrows on the num pad are pointing in the way you would move the joystick). To go up, either pull your mouse down, pull the joystick back, or press num-2. (notice: you will have to activate your mouse to use it {i haven't used a joystick so i don't know how it works} go to the settings and click on yes above activate mouse). To go down, push your mouse forward, push the joystick forward, or press num-8. To go left move your mouse left, [i'm not sure how to explain what you do with a joystick], or press num-4. To go right, do the opposite movement of left, but on the num-pad, press 6. To roll press 7, 8, or use the joystick (?).
When you want to fire a weapon, move until the triangular cross in the middle of the screen is covering the area you wish to fire at, namely, a ship and either press the right mouse key, pull the trigger on the joystick, or press ctrl, in the case of having multiple ctrls on your keyboard, press the left one. To fire at a moving target do the same but press y instead of firing, move the cross till it covers the circle that your target has, then fire. If no circle appears, move closer to your target by pressing A and keeping your target in the middle of the screen.
If firing a weapon is making you tear your hair out, firing missiles will make you want to jump off a cliff. If a triangle does not start moving round the screen either you can just fire or you will have to go the same way as firing a weapon, to fire, press the spacebar, click the left mouse button or...
Oh this is getting to hard!! Can someone else show a dummy how to play freespace?
Basically, follow the Traing Modules until you get it.
-
1st open freespace, if this is too difficult, don't bother trying to play.
That's a little harsh. :D If you have a dodgy OpenAL installation thanks to your sound card drivers that might not be as simple as just clicking on the icon. :)
-
I wasn't talking as if you were a dummy, i just wanted to write something, that i though was humorous
But not all my humour ppl would get, or like (them= :doubt: :wtf:, me= :()

Lobo posted the way to start FSO.
*cough*
3. Settings open.
4. Buttons see.
I also explained how to access the button configuration from the settings menu. Despite my instructions being written in Zero Wing style, which by the way Herra Tohtori noticed. I suppose I could've been more accurate.

Having fun at the expense of the new people is not exactly fair
-
Be that as it may, but it is somewhat safe to assume that if a person has played anything, ever, he or she would know where to look for button configurations. Or am I wrong?
-
but why didn't you just give him/her a link to the manual or wiki instead of bullying him/her? :mad2: :ick:

Edit: Actually, if she bothers to play FS, she should find out that the training missions give a pretty good overview on the controls.
Edit 2: Fixed, Knkls is apparently a chick, at least according to her profile.

Oh I got the joke. It's just that quite few people really have had trouble getting the game to run. :)
