Title: Can you make a customized ship?
Post by: Killer Whale on December 31, 2007, 01:28:47 am
I think i've seen in the conversions ppl make a model which goes into the game to become a ship or something. How do you do it? If you can?

Example, i want to make a destroyer, i make a model of it, and make it have stats, i give it weps, and put it in the game so you can make a FRED mission with this new destroyer in it.

Not exactly sure what you need or mean but...

First... have a clear concept on what you are doing..
Make the model, UV-map and texture it - and all its lower level-of-detail (LOD) models as well as debris model and submodels.
Make sure the model and all its submodels are setup so that the converter understands it.
Convert the model (using PCS/PCS2 or Max plugin).
Add all the model related .POF data into the ship (paths, subsystems, glowpoints, rotations etc. etc.)
Make tbl entry for the ship (preferably using modular tables)
Make sure you have all the pieces in place (model file (.pof), table file (.tbm), textures (preferably .dds))
Start the game - create a new pilot (just in case) and off you go.

There are some quite good tutorials out there for most of the stuff above... New ones wouldn't hurt though...
