Title: Error I don't know how to fix - Please help!
Post by: Yathin on January 01, 2008, 11:33:41 am
While making a personal "Endgame" mission for TBP, I used "Gold" as a seperate wing name for some Minbari Nials. Then it started insisting that I switch Alpha to be Gold. Then it changed it so that "Gold" and "Alpha" were the same thing, making it so I can't disband or delete "Gold"! (Best as I can describe what happened, sorry if it seems confusing)(And yes, this is a "Battle of Endor" style mission, as there are appx 60-70 fighters, and 30-40 capital ships.)

Errors recieved when loading the misson in FRED

1st Error that comes up:

2nd Error that comes up:

When selecting Alpha, it selects the whole wing:

When selecting Gold, it selects Alpha 1. (My ship)

(no matter what, the mission no longer loads now)

It would help if you attached the mission.

If you go over 100 ships FRED will fail to save the mission correctly and will wipe anything after the 100th. That's almost certainly the cause of this.

This kind of error usually corrupts the mission. You can get a working version by changing the format of the backup file(<mission>.bak ---> <mission>.fs2). You can also open the mission with notepad or Wordpad and manually fix it(remove all references to ships 101, 102, 103, n...).

I never had tried editing the mission via wordpad, only the tables... I never thought of editing it like that!

However, I just changed the number of wings to 21, and removed "Gold". The mission works fine now, and there was the error of it being 1 ship too many

Thank you for your advice Mobius, and karajoma, I knew that would be related to the problem.. but thank you for confirming it!  :D
