Title: Why bargain bins are awesome...
Post by: MP-Ryan on January 03, 2008, 08:52:46 pm
I picked up Hidden and Dangerous 2, Unreal II, Prince of Persia Sands of Time, and Hitman Contracts for a grand total of $18.98 CAD.

I was desperately searching for Splinter Cell Pandora's Box or HALO, but no dice there =(

Pandora Tomorrow, right? I liked that title.

Chaos Theory was a lot better, though.

Halo is still @ Wally World, right?  Pick it up for like $20, IIRC.

Bargain bins are cool, yeah, but I got meself the Splinter Cell trilogy maybe a year and a half ago. Why? Because it was cheaper than buying just Chaos Theory. It cost 30€ = 44$ = 4, 830JPY, whereas Chaos Theory was fullpriced, 50€ = 73$ = 8, 051JPY.

Oh seriously. Spare yourself and don't buy Halo. It's another game that would have been great when Micro**** wouldn't have bought up Bungee. In reflection to that, it sucks. Sucks. Suuuuccckkkkkksssss.

The multiplayer sucks that bad IMO, but the single player is good for kicks. Thats why i'm almost finished reading all the books.
But i'm not gonna bother getting a 360 to buy halo 3. I'd rather wait 5 years for it to be emulated for the PC.

Halo 1 sucked, at least for PC. Haven't played SP halo 2, and I played about a half an hour into Halo 3 before I got bored and stopped

Yep. That's my basic point of view on the matter.

then again, it's been years and nobody has a decent working emulator for the original xbox working yet.

I liked Halo 1 for the PC. I know I have to rave against it cuz it's popular, but it's a pretty fun game, as long as you don't take it seriously and competitively - it's not as "hardcore" as UT or anything, so I just play it slow to relax. :)

I didn't really like Unreal2. Glitzy graphics (now dated) and so-so gameplay.

The biggest flaw with U2's gameplay, IMO, was that it had very little, if any, hit effects. None of the weapons had any punch, and they all looked pretty small and wimpy (except the assault rifle).

Agreed.  I loved the original Halo... which is why I keep looking to buy a copy for cheap =)  (A friend lent me theirs several years ago, but I played it, uninstalled, and gave it back).

Yeah, I meant Pandora Tomorrow.  I keep trying to find the original SC and SC:PT in a pack because I own Chaos Theory and have played through SC,but I don't own the first two.  I may have to break down and visit amazon or ebay.

This thread seems to be more appropriate in Gaming.

The first two Splinter Cell games are definitely worth picking up at prices like that. CT is better than them in many ways, but the first two are still very nice. Stay away from Double Agent though, at least on the PC.

The biggest flaw with U2's gameplay, IMO, was that it had very little, if any, hit effects. None of the weapons had any punch, and they all looked pretty small and wimpy (except the assault rifle).

That sounds more like a graphical flaw than anything with the gameplay. :p I don't remember exactly how the weapons in that looked, but the few effects I remember were quite good. (the flamethrower, assault rifle and black hole gun all were particularly nice IIRC)

I noticed there was a compilation package of the last 3 Hitman games retailing for less then I paid for any of them the other day.  Too bad I own them all already.  But yeah, bargain bins are great, I was TICKED when Gamestop bought out our local video game store and turned it into one giant console-centric upscale pawn shop, just like all their other stores.  I used to find all kinds of bargains there, now they barely have any PC games to begin with and won't restock used PC games at all.
