Title: The GTI Jotunheim's "larger-than-FRED-sized" Fighterbay
Post by: Androgeos Exeunt on January 03, 2008, 10:30:50 pm
Hey, all. I just got out of the mission "Secrets Revealed", and I spotted a colossal inconsistency with the GTI Jotunheim. How can it spew 300+ fighters (which it does do if you make it invulnerable and park one click away from the Fighterbay, forcing your primary weapon to SSLBeam and firing away)? The GTI can't have that many fighters stashed in an Arcadia! In doing so, I also crashed the game.

I believe they're remaking Silent Threat to fix errors just like that. The project is called Silent Threat: Reborn.

I know. I'm just pointing it out...although I think they've already found it long ago... :nervous:

Simple. Because it's not supposed to invulnerable, and your not supposed to have a SSLBeam on your ship :P. So when you break the rules of the universe, more become broken. It's the laws of God powers :P.

Seriously though, since you obviously used cheats (or FRED?) you messed with the game, so it was supposed to be destroyed (I'm assuming so, since i haven't played silent threat in years, i barely remember that mission) before you realized it had so many fighters.

Will STR use a spiffy looking Jotunheim, or will it look like a normal Arcadia?

Both.

Uhh that means normal for retail and spiffy for SCP, yes?

It means it'll use a normal Arcadia with extra ships and pylons added around it.

I think the Hades should have had that Shivan Reskin Job that someone made and also have the other 4 eninges from the Hades Mk2

I'm against the reskin but the one with the 66 turrets would be nice.

Well, prehaps, the Hades could grow over time. It stars out with the Terran Skinjob and mostly Terran weapons (apart from the Lucifer Beams). Then over time the ship evolves, eventually growing that Shivan skinjob and completly shivan weapons

That would be stupid IMO.

I wouldn't say stupid, but... strange. Not usual. That'd imply that the Shivans use some kind of organic technology (oh, the clichés), which has never been implied in either FS1, ST or FS2.

Or maybe the emperor dude meant that the GTI were doing constant upgrades on it, which again sounds unlikely, since building and modifying ships shouldn't be a quick and easy operation.

I don't know. The shivans vessels have always stuck me as somewhat techno-organic. I mean lookat the was the Sathanas Arms move in that FS2 cutscene. As far as i could tell...it looked more organic than mechanical. I may start a thread on this. We know so little about the shivans that i think them having Techno-organic tech adds to their mystique.
I mean, from the "boarding party" cutscene, they struck me as what HR Geiger's famous alien might be like if they developed technology

But I think that it would add something to the mix if you actually had a time limit to destroy the Hades. ie before it develops Lucifer shields

You see in that mission, the Hades alway struck me as being unfinished.

But beyond my opinion of the Hades and Shivan Tech, It would be nice to wee some other hybrids at jotunheim, like the enemy GTI fighters have Shivan weapons. Use of shivan fighters with terran weapons, cruisers with shivan Laser Turrets. That though of thing.

Maybe. The visual of Shivan ships might hint slightly towards organic tech, but otherwise there is nothing implying it. Opinion question.

The whole goddamn Silent Threat always struck me as being unfinished.

I now what you mean. Silent threat could have used more time in planning and development.

Here's looking to ST:R for that unforfilled potential to be forfilled

I don't think that this "evolving Hades" thing is a particularly good idea for something like STR, but it may be good for something else Post-Capella. And the Hades looks decidedly Terran with its boxy shape, if this evolving Hades idea ever gets done then it shouldn't even use the Hades, or modify the shape to make it more rounded.

Amazing how useful models from defunct projects can be, really. :D

It's a pity you can't have a Jotunheim large enough to house the Hades... ;7
