Hey, all. How can I make a custom title for myself?
-
You mean something aside from 'I'd like to learn Vasudan...' ?
Those aren't made, they're handed out by mods.
-

Um, I meant custom titles like Snail's "Would jump off a cliff too".
-
Yes, those are handed out by mods. Sorry, I was unclear, I meant 'something aside from personal text, i.e. the small text beneath your username rather than the personal text.'

Oh, that's alright then. Thanks for the clarification. ;)
-
I believe the last person to go around demanding a title got "Kick Me" for his troubles.
So I wouldn't be too quick to want one if I were you. Half of them are a reference to the person making a fool of themselves rather than doing something good.
-
Though there are people who work their asses off contributing to FreeSpace and earn serious custom titles. People like Admiral Nelson and IceyJones, for example.
-
Um, I meant custom titles like Snail's "Would jump off a cliff too".
Oh, I know how. Post annoying comments while Karajorma is around. That's bound to either get you banned or get you a horrible custom title. Or both.
-
Either way it's not advisable ;)
-
Yeah. Don't mess with the admins... :nervous:
That said, some punishments are a bit overdone... Like taka's and woutersmits'.
-
Takashi absolutely deserved what was coming to him. He'd been given lots of advice on how to stop being such a n00b and plenty of chances on GW and had mostly ignored it all.

Actually I think yourself, Fubar and ARSPR are the only people to get custom titles out of me. And two of those got them from service to the community. Trashman had one at one point but it was reverted to his older one afterwards.
Annoying Goober is much more likely to result in one. Or a banning. :p
-
Yeah. Don't mess with the admins... :nervous:

You evidently never played with takashi online.
-
see? nobody cares about Woutersmits
Just kidding.
Anyways what happened with takashi? was he hacking or something?
-
Takashi absolutely deserved what was coming to him. He'd been given lots of advice on how to stop being such a n00b and plenty of chances on GW and had mostly ignored it all.
But taka was entertaining...
You evidently never played with takashi online.
What did he do FF or did he hack? Or was he just being a general ass hole?
Trashman had one at one point but it was reverted to his older one afterwards.
I think Trash's "spews nothing but bullsh*t" was quite funny. But I can understand it being reverted. Who changed it back?
-
 never heard of the movie. sorry.
(uh-oh. im going post-happy :shaking: )
IIRC I got my title from that post, among other things. I think I had the 4 latest posts on Hard Light, and I thought that was bad. Ahh, I remember the days when I could only use at least 2 smilies...
Also, Not three days before that it was "some l33t custom title".
I like my titles :(, bad this one may be...
-
I think I'm the admin who's currently most likely to give out custom titles. But keep in mind that that works positively as well as negatively. :) I gave thesizzler his "some l33t custom title" before someone else came along and changed it.
As for woutersmits, his "punishment", if you can call it that, was very lenient. He was banned for only one day, and even that was simply a voiceless ban that still let him read everything. I thought it was the best way to get him to stop yammering on and start reading what people were saying to him.
-

FF, and a lot of it. He used to fire at other players in almost every mission. In one case he actually failed a mission for us by blowing up some friendly ship 10 minutes into it, although I only realized what had happened later. :p
-
Noticed I have one now. Still don't know if it's punishment or a good thing. :D
-
It's for your continued work in bug hunting for multiplayer. :)
-

Apparently he didn't get the hint. I got two more emails from him reporting karajorma this morning. :p
-
Again? Oh dear. I wonder when he'll start demanding for an update again.
-
Thing is, I think he's a Pakistani guy accessing from the Northern mountains. He doesn't know a word of English and is using babelfish.altavista.pak to communicate with us.
-
One for Mantis no doubt. What was the other one for? :D
I don't seem to be getting them. I wonder if you don't receive emails reporting you. :D
-
Check it out. He just copied your posts into the comments. :D
The following post, "Re: fs2 not starting up please help me" by karajorma has been reported by woutersmits on a board you moderate:

I suspect I'll be getting reported again as I just closed his earlier Mantis report.

I simultaneously want to smack him and want to apologize to him for our inability to help him.

It's for your continued work in bug hunting for multiplayer. :)
Good thing I haven't played multi in months then. Waiting to see how bad I can break 3.6.10.
-
:sigh:
I simultaneously want to smack him and want to apologize to him for our inability to help him.
We are able or most likely are able to help him. It's just that the language barrier prevents him from understanding what information we need from him. It is quite sad. I too am disappointed that we weren't able to help him before the whole ban 'n report issue happened.
-
Trashman had one at one point but it was reverted to his older one afterwards.
I think Trash's "spews nothing but bullsh*t" was quite funny. But I can understand it being reverted. Who changed it back?
Seriously...how can you say something like that? That title was terribly offensive, I don't think it was the correct way to treat a modeller like him.
-
I thought he didn't mind? IIRC he said so...
-
So?
I don't mind about my Custom Title, either...it doesn't mean I don't find it childish, ugly and a bit nonsense(it doesn't fit well...note that I barely know what "Rainbow Brite" is!).
-
It fits perfectly. You used red, then blue, then orange, then purple, then some other freaky color. So you got that custom title. And it's a great custom title, it's short, concise and COLORFUL. Do you have any idea how lucky you are to have a colored custom title? How can you complain? :wtf:
My custom title is too long, but it is appropriate...
-
I used the colors of Italy(flag+lightblue) but not the whole rainbow. And I write in Italic. Does it suggest more than the word "colors"?
It's colored to make it look stupid. It's colored because of the text, "Rainbow Brite". Do you find that a privilege? It's only a way to emphasize the meaning of the text :P
-
So?

So? When I got this title, I didn't know what thinking was. Now I do, and I often do think :p. While you on the other hand, despite being able to google it, still don't know what rainbow brite is, and still post in italics and a weird color.

:wtf: Yes, and snail really did jump off a cliff, FUBAR literally is a trouble magnet in multi, and Karajorma really is banned.
-
Mobius, face it. You used red, green, white (:P) and orange. Granted, not at the same time, but you did to it. You DESERVE this title.

Blue, teal, and I think some others.

Yeah. How can you say you don't understand how you got this title?

So now you want an italic title? Nah, just kidding Mob. :p Just try to lighten up and look at the bright side, I haven't heard Snail complain.
-
Seriously...how can you say something like that? That title was terribly offensive, I don't think it was the correct way to treat a modeller like him.
At the time he'd accused me of giving him his previous title (Which was idiotic considering I wasn't an admin at the time) and hadn't apologised after I pointed that fact out. Then he went and said he gives nothing but bull****.....

Well I kind of reject giving people evil titles unless they are okay with it. I could understand Vasudan Commander's outrage at his "Biggest n00b on HLP -- And proud of it!" title (not that I'm saying it was you or anything).
I am okay with mine (but a better one would be welcome :nervous:).
-
Ask and ye shall receive.
-
Oh well. You asked for it, Snail.
-
Some people in this thread need a good pull-through with a Christmas tree. Seriously have some ****ing fun already.
-
Ask and ye shall receive.
Cool I have a smiley in my custom title.
-
now thats just not fair.
-
That's entirely the point :p
-
"Back where he started". Again. Expectable...

Oh, yeah, because Google helps you out with everything. I can google Star Wars, read the whole Star Wars page in the Wiki...but I need to watch the films to know Star Wars. Your point makes no sense :P
Call it weird...
:wtf: Yes, and snail really did jump off a cliff, FUBAR literally is a trouble magnet in multi, and Karajorma really is banned.
YOU, despite what you can do for the community, will remain the "Think then post" guy...Cobra will remain the "n00b", Woomeister will remain the "Infyrno Missile" and nothing else, Black Wolf will remain the "drunk", CP5670 the "public enemy/Dr.Evil", Flipside the "mirrored", etc. etc.
The whole Custom Title su**s since it's managed by Administrators who consider 1/1,000 of what a member does/is and create a title which can be offensive and/or pointless. I found my old "Rainbow Brite" stupid because 1) I have never used ALL available colors and 2) Foreigners knew much better than me what MY title was about(again, using google and/or the Wiki doesn't change a lot).
Mobius, face it. You used red, green, white (:P) and orange. Granted, not at the same time, but you did to it. You DESERVE this title.

I don't want an Italic title....but I think I'm more than "the childish guy who writes in color(?s?)". I think Black Wolf can offer much more than his famous thread(same thing for spartan and many others) etc. etc.
Well I think he has/is much more than what "Gives nothing but bull***t" suggests. His Custom Title is a bit offensive, too...I know a typo that, translated, is:
"Never argue with idiots. They will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience".
Just a coincidence?
[notme]So many people thought kara was an admin before he was...[/notme]
... :nervous:
In fact Goober said "de facto Admin [...] but now it's official".
There are many not-so-good titles in circulation...
EDIT: Tell me why Goober doesn't have a custom title about F*3, that "HLP member arrested" thread...or the fact that ST:R was supposed to be released many years ago? :D

Dude. You have to be misinterpreting my posts on purpose. If you read the wiki for rainbow brite, I garuntee you that you will know what it is. Maybe not to the fullest extent, but unless you can't read well you'll know what it is. And the entire point I was trying to make with the second part is that custom titles don't have to be perfectly true. If you can't see how Rainbow Brite was a befitting title for you, then I don't know how you converse with anyone who doesn't always speak in the purely literal sense.
-
That's the way HLP has always been Mobius. It was like that long before you joined. Long before any of the people complaining about custom titles joined. If you don't like it there's always Game-Warden. You can have any title you deem fit there.
Oh and keep complaining and your title is likely to end up as Rainbow Dim. :p
-

Titles are not permanent. There are many examples of people who have had their titles changed, whether from favorable to insulting (Black Wolf had a Twisted Infinities related title before his drunk escapade) or insulting to favorable (Kazan had several insulting titles in a row before he released PCS2).
In fact Goober said "de facto Admin [...] but now it's official".
...Which supports what Snail haloboy said. Your point?

Out of pity I'll refrain from changing it now, but if he keeps whining, I will definitely take your suggestion. :D

I may learn something about it thanks to the Wiki but I still need to watch that program if I want to know it...

I find it difficult to happen when certain titles become classic. I'm talking about Black Wolf's actual title, which is now a "classic". Kazan's old title(the one I seen, Alpha Monkey) didn't give the impression of something classic and permanent and I remember him complaining about many things.
In fact Goober said "de facto Admin [...] but now it's official".

You should really read all of my post before you respond, rather than merely the first 2 sentences.
-
You got the italic title you wanted. :p
-

That's not the point, thesizzler. I said what I think it's true: the Wiki won't turn me into an expert watcher of that program.

I could care less :p

That's not the point, thesizzler. I said what I think it's true: the Wiki won't turn me into an expert watcher of that program.
Here's how our conversation vaguely went:
Mobius: I have absolutely no idea what Rainbow Brite is.
TheSizzler: Google or wikipedia is good...
M: I won't know what they are really if I read them, I have to watch them.
TS: I promise that if you read the wiki all the way through, you'll have a very good idea. (you stopped reading here) Maybe not to the fullest extent as if you watched it, but you'll know what it is.
M: I won't really know what they are if I read the wiki, I have to watch it.
TS: *facepalm
M: Reading the wiki won't give me every single scrap of information about it.
TS: *dies a little
And of course, you need to know every single piece of info about your title. Didn't you hear about the title quizzes? Every June, GooberXXXX gives out a 500 question mulitple choice test and you have to fill it out. Then you have to write a 100 page summarization of everything that has anything to do with your title. If you get one question wrong on the multiple choice test, or forget one scrap of knowledge on the summarization, you are set on fire and then shot full of arrows and then have salt poured on you and pushed into a pool of ammonia which is then turned to a temperature so high that it melts the rock it's in to lava and you're drowned in it.

But I didn't set that title. It's not my fault. There are other ways to advertise TV programs...
-
What the **** are you talking about?
1) Duh.
2) Yes it is. You type in a different color and in italics with full knowledge that it bugs people.
3) A TV program isn't being "advertised". I'm not advertising "thesizzler" by having it as my name.
-
My title? Someone sets the name of a TV program as my custom title and I have to learn everything possible about it? Is there a pro in feeling offended?
EDIT:
1) Dah.
2) That color is calm. That's why I don't write posts in red(or in dark red, as Black Wolf told me to do via PM).
3) Of course, Goober's not advertising that program(but that seems a valid reason). Oh, and I don't know "thesizzler", either...
-
My title? Someone sets the name of a TV program as my custom title and I have to learn everything possible about it? Is there a pro in feeling offended?
1) What I meant was that your previous post was a very illogical response to what you quoted.
2) The point of what you did quote was that you don't need to learn everything about it. It was sarcasm.
3) That's your title, offended or not.
EDIT: Come to think of it, this post is a pretty strange response, too. You really only responded to one of my points. The rest of what you said was kind of... random.
-
The title isn't about the show, it's about the colors you post in. Goob or kara or whoever thought that "Rainbow Brite" would also be sort of an easter-egg pop culture reference.
-

2) I'm not expected to know something about it. Full stop.
3) What's the point in leave things as they are? What's the point in getting people done? Things that worked for 7(6? 7? 8?) years aren't necessarily supposed to be correct and valid.
The title isn't about the show, it's about the colors you post in. Goob or kara or whoever thought that "Rainbow Brite" would also be sort of an easter-egg pop culture reference.
It was Goober, he told me.
I don't see the difference.
-
The fact that many members complain should invite to think about the custom title system...or better, the way it is managed. I know, HLP has always been, but I see only a handful of veterans and many "newcomers" complaining about many things.
And that should also tell you about something. The fact is that titles have always been a reward for exceptional service to the community or a punishment for excessive stupidity or ill-thought out posting. Given that there are people with far more insulting ones than yours and they haven't complained you should learn to loosen up.
(it's just a way to say that the classic "that's how things use to work here on HLP" is not going to last long)
It will last as long as the admins want it to last. This isn't a democracy. If you don't like it the only vote you actually have is with your feet.
Ok, there's Game Warden...are you going to move Inferno to GW only because Mobius doesn't like his Custom Title?
Go ahead and try to convince the rest of the team to move because you don't like your custom title. :p
Ah, before I forget...do you remember why aldo is away from HLP? :P
Remind me. And try to keep a straight face while you're doing it.
-
Why is he? I couldn't find any indications in his last posts.
-
1) I complain because other people complain. Someone in the past might have had a VERY stupid title and no chance of complaining since no one else was complaining. It's a basic principle that can also be applied to human history. It's very strange to see serious stuff like the SCP on one side and "meh" stuff like titles on the other side here on HLP.
2) There are good and bad consequences. Pics in signatures and avatars-for-everyone are all things I don't really want to see(Admins +), but there still is that "problem" with the titles(Admins -) and the fact that you realize that something doesn't work well after many years(Hard Light subforum, now General Discussion, and its posts...Admins -).
3) I'm not going to do that :p
4) Aldo's not a "newcomer",anyway...and he had his reasons.
-
Gordon bennet. it could be much worse. i had kick me had kick me and i loved it  Stop worrying, people read sigs more than titles. . .
-
1) I complain because other people complain.
You're the only one still complaining though. :p
Aldo's not a "newcomer",anyway...and he had his reasons.
I'm sure he did. But if you're trying to use him as an example either you state what they were or don't bother.
-
Gordon bennet. it could be much worse. i had kick me had kick me and i loved it  Stop worrying, people read sigs more than titles. . .
Not me, I have sigs turned off. The forum's almost readable that way.
But I find it funny how I get a title just for joining a mod project with a half completed model. :p
-
Yeah, how did he get that anyway?
-

You speak as if there's going to be some sort of revolution or overthrow of the forum, when it's far more likely that we'll simply ban you when your annoyances reach critical mass. :p
You're the only one still complaining though. :p
It's kind of funny how he insisted on doing that even though not one but two admins warned him of the likely consequences. :D
But I find it funny how I get a title just for joining a mod project with a half completed model. :p
Actually, the only reason you had that title is because whoever added you to the SWC didn't do it properly. That's also the reason the project badge wasn't clickable. I've fixed both of those problems by re-adding you properly, but I thought I'd also enlist you as an illustration for Mobius in the process. :)

Hell yes! Longest title ever! WOOOO!
-
And on your 1000th post.

The rest of what you said was kind of... random.
1) Call it illogical...
2) I'm not expected to know something about it. Full stop.
3) What's the point in leave things as they are? What's the point in getting people done? Things that worked for 7(6? 7? 8?) years aren't necessarily supposed to be correct and valid.
1) Yes I do. You came up with random questions that had none to very little correlation to my post. It's like in a UN WHO committee meeting, the Russian Fed going like "US ARVs are way too expensive. Go with China's or even better, South Africa's." and the US replying "Well Israel has legalized organ selling, albeit the bill in Knesset right now which would deal with it,"
2) Then why on Earth are you using "not knowing anything about it" as a premise for why you shouldn't have the title?!!!
3) It doesn't matter. And if your title prevents you from getting things done, you really need to get some help.
-
wait a second. It says mobius has no posts to me...
-
Anyone who takes their title seriously is bound to be offended.
-
It says mobius has no posts to me...
I know I shouldn't but :wakka:
-
Looks like they zeroed his postcount...
-
What about my Custom Title? Who changed it? :(
Looks like they zeroed his postcount...
I wouldn't mind that. Having more than 7,000 posts is kind of annoying. Do I have to get into a flamewar to have my E-penis shrunk?
-
Done.
-
Can you leave my postcount to 0? I like the Mobius ribbon
1) I complain because other people complain.
You're the only one still complaining though. :p
Check around...
Aldo's not a "newcomer",anyway...and he had his reasons.
I'm sure he did. But if you're trying to use him as an example either you state what they were or don't bother.
I think we all know the reasons....it was something about the Administrators...
The Old Ones will be forced to let us use avatars, pics in signatures and custom Custom Titles() in the future(I don't like them, anyway)! :nervous:
(it's just a way to say that the classic "that's how things use to work here on HLP" is not going to last long)
You speak as if there's going to be some sort of revolution or overthrow of the forum, when it's far more likely that we'll simply ban you when your annoyances reach critical mass. :p
And you speak as this site has been on for 100 years :P
It's kind of funny how he insisted on doing that even though not one but two admins warned him of the likely consequences. :D
What? Setting my post number to 0? Giving me an even childish title? I could care less :P

3) It doesn't matter. And if your title prevents you from getting things done, you really need to get some help.
1) And you keep circling around "what I said" and "what you said" with no concrete results.
2) You mean THAT title. With more imagination people can come out with original titles
3) I was a bit disgusted...no more, no less. I don't care about it now.
wait a second. It says mobius has no posts to me...
But you should be able to see my logo below the title :)
(but it disappears when post count >0 :(
Done.

I liked your title, Mobius. It was sort of a badge of affectionate eccentricity.
Can't you accept it as such? It's really not doing any harm.
As someone brought up in another thread, it's good to be able to laugh at yourself.

Well we gave him enough rope and he successful strung himself up quite beautifully with it. I really don't think there is much point to continuing to listen to the whining.
