Title: Help with running FSport
Post by: pyth on January 04, 2008, 04:52:08 pm
Hey, I just downloaded this today and I'm having some trouble getting FSport up and running. I'd really like to play through both games, in order to really experience the story again.

In essence, I load the FSport mod, and I do get the opening cut scene from Freespace 1 when I run it. But after that I find myself at the Freespace 2 command center screen. I tried opening the select campaign window from there, but the only campaign on display is the Freespace 2 campaign.

Can anyone tell me what I'm missing here so I can get underway playing this masterpeice  :)

Details, details, my good man. How did you install FSPort? Do you have all the FSPort files in their own subfolder, like \freespace\fsport? Remembered to select FSPort as mod from the Launcher? If you get the FreeSpace 1 intro and the FreeSpace 2 flight deck, you most certainly have done something wrong.

I installed it using the freespace_open_installer. Basiclly just installed everything possible via that installer. Fsport is in it's own subfolder in my c:\games\freespace 2 directory. I did select it as a mod from the loader and then clicked run.

From there I got the Freespace 1 intro and the FS2 flight deck.

What files do you have in the fsport folder?

I have FS10ggcutscenepack.vp, settings.ini, mod.ini and a folder named "data".

inside the subfolder "data" I have another subfolder titled "cache" and a file called "multi.log"

In the cache subfolder there are a 12 files with a .ibx suffix. stuff like "debris02" and rockeye and starfield.

...while you should also have the files that are actually necessary:

fsport3_0_4.vp
fsport-fs1_training.vp
fsport-glow.vp
fsport-missions.vp
fsport-shine.vp
sparky_hi_fs1.vp
stu_fs1.vp
tango_fs1.vp
warble_fs1.vp

Visit the Port website (http://fsport.hard-light.net/website/) and download at least the files I mentioned and put them to your fsport folder. I would have thought that Turey's Installer downloaded all of them. But, guess not.

Upon rerunning the installer and checking my file list, I see I somehow missed most of the subsections under the FSport section  :doubt:

I'm getting those installed now. Thank you very kindly for your help and welcome!

Oh, and the port website no longer seems to host those files, and the fileplanet link they give to those files require a fileplanet paying membership :/

Hmm. Well, I've heard rumours that somewhere in the murky depths, there's an option to use Fileplanet for free, but so far I haven't found it. But if the Installer does its job, good. And around here, we help those in distress. So you're welcome.

Blast it, the installer finished it's run through and those files are not in there still. Know of anyplace other then fileplanet or that site that no longer hosts them to aquire them from?

FilePlanet does not require a paying membership, but they make the free membership signup link really obscure.  Just pay close attention and you'll find it.

The reason the installer didn't download the files is because our mirror is not working.  I'm PMming the site manager now.

Will the dl's from the fsport page work too then?

The mirror site had exceeded its bandwidth and is now back up.
