ROFL!
-
I always knew this day would come, but frankly I was expecting Nuke or an0n to be first... :nervous:
-
wouldn't be suprised if we all got arrested for downloading FSO....:nervous:
-
Since it's not illegal to, I don't expect such thing to ever happen. :wtf:
-
well, downloading freespace i mean
but it's abandonware, so it's legal, right?
-
Goob! How did they ever catch you?
-
Someone who knows something I don't can come in and correct me, but as I've understood it, FS2 is freeware and the FS2 engine is open source. FS1 on the other hand, is another story.
-

That's kind of a murky legal question (short answer for no, it's illegal to download FS). And it's not abandonware, Interplay still has the rights to it.
-
FS2 and FS1 are not freeware, technically every time you download it you're breaking the law. The reason being is that the actual game content has not been released for free, only the engine, which is free.
-
well it says in the volition EULA you can legally hand copies of it to your friends
and we're all friends here, right? :nervous:
-

Ah, much obliged.
But on my book, it's legal enough if the owners aren't showing any interest towards the subject.
-
Karajorma is...Banned.
...Goober has been arrested...
...who's next? Woo?
-
I can't decide who's my favourite: this chick (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2008/0104081mugs2.html) or this guy (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2008/0104081mugs5.html). So many good ones to choose from - like a kid in a failure store.
-

Nice find. :D

I think it's more accurate to say that if the owners don't care, its legality is irrelevant for all practical purposes.

-
Good point

How can goob get internet access now??
-
Karajorma is...Banned.
Wait what? When did this happen? Kara can't be banned! He sometimes acts rationally.

He deserved it. For reference, see this (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,51250.0.html) thread.
Edit:
How can goob get internet access now??
Dial-up, baby.

You're right. I knew there was something fishy about that guy... :mad2:
-

Yeah. I was totally asking for it. :p
-
Wow, that thread is awesome. Only at HLP, eh?
-
i dont expect the coders to be good guys all the time. some asshattery is acceptable or even desired at times :D
-
and thats why HLP is sweet ;)

First question: Is that really our Goober?
Second: Who did he kill?

His innocence...at least that's the rumor I've been hearing....or was it his internet? I sweat it started with an I.

Anybody notice how he hasn't posted in this thread yet he's been everywhere else recently?

Parole?

Bail conditions more likely.
I wonder if he'll call any of us as character witnesses? Or if the prosecution will. :p
-
Heck, I'll volonteer!
-
Heck, I'll volonteer!
Now if kara were arrested...
-
As far as I know Croatia doesn't have an extradition treaty with the UK for capital crimes. So I'm safe once I get back.....****! Given the entire plan away! :p
-
-
Heck, I'll volonteer!
Now if kara were arrested...
I'd volonteer several times..under different names..in disguise...with plastic surgery. And I would demand an electric chair!
F'course, the trail will have to be held in Texsas.
-
Why Texas? And what's Texsas?
-
I'd simply voir dire the jury until it was stacked with grammar nazis. They'd give me a medal. :p
-
Too bad for you one doesn't type in the witness stand. My spoken english is puuuurfect. :drevil:
As is my grammar...when I pay attention.
You will BUUUURN...ERm..FRRRRRYYYYY!
-
So in other words you're saying that your dreadful spelling and grammar is because you're lazy?
Oh dear Trashman. I'd been cutting you some slack on that until now because you aren't a native English speaker. If you're saying that you deliberately are making mistakes cause you can't be arsed I will be forced to mercilessly take the piss out of every major mistake I find from now on. :p
-
Or just ban him now and be happy with it :P

Nah, it's becoause I'm always in a hurry, so I type fast and generally don't double-check.
Now the underlined is an ACTUAL mistake since I'm quite aware it's typed incorrectly, but for the life of me I can't remember ATM how it goes and I'm too lazy to check on-line dictionaries.
Oh, you also forgot one thing. You won't be in any position to hunt for my mistakes since you'll be too busy frying.
-
So if you don't bother to check if your posts are even comprehensible, you must not really care if we understand them, or even read them. Thus we can stop reading them. Thus you are just wasting your time, making you stupid. :D
What further proves the above conclusion is that you don't have to check any dictionaries. This board has a spell check feature that makes our posts appear as if a smart person wrote them.

Let's be honest, the spell check feature doesn't do miracles. It has its limits. :p

They are always comprehensible enough. If you have trouble reading what I wrote then I'm questioning your education.
A few odd errors or typos every once and a while doesn't bother me. :drevil:

Yeah but he's not even close to them is he? :p
Nah, it's becoause I'm always in a hurry, so I type fast and generally don't double-check.
Shall I assume that you don't bother to actually think about them first too? It would explain a great deal. :p
-
Oh please..Get of ye high mule kaj.
My spelling and grammar is better than that of half the native english speakers.
Yup, there are a (very) few words I know I'm misspelling (cut me some slack, I havn't looked in a english dictionary in years) but 99% of mistakes are nothing more than pure speed typos. Even then there are far and few in between.

Yeah. Except, not really. :p
-
Thanks for proving my point for me perihelion. :D
I'm assuming that Trashman still hasn't cottoned on to the fact that he could have avoided that humiliation by simply clicking the spell check button.
-
Yeah. Except, not really. :p
speed typos...again...so?
I don't feel humiliated at all. There's nothing to be ashamed for. :p
-
It's the "few and far between" bit I'm taking issue with. That, and laziness is a piss poor excuse for bad spelling. Bad grammar I can deal with in moderation, but spelling errors? The website can fix them for you at virtually no effort on your part other than a quick point and click! That kind of laziness just annoys me.
-
I'm a very busy man..VERY busy..Sue me!

 No, it was not right the first time.
Anyone? Anyone? ...Goober?
I summon the almighty Grammar Inquisition!!!

I don't read 90% of his posts anyway, regardless of errors.
-
It should be "are"
My spelling and grammar are
My spelling and my grammar are
They are
Those three segements are equivalents.
For some very odd reason, possessive subjects seem to confuse people when it comes to verb agreement. If a list of items can be consolidated as one single "thing" then sometimes it can operate in a singular form (and I'm trying to think of an example but one escapes me), but usually it's plural.
The grammar issues that I see most frequently online and subsequently irritate the hell out of me:
-Then and than. Then = Condition, Than = Comparison.
-Your and You're. That's just laziness people. You learned compound words in grade 1, for Pete's sake.
-It's and Its. It's = It is, the verb "to be." Its = possessive.
-Affect and effect. Effect = noun. Affect = verb.
-Their, they're, and there. If I need to explain this to anyone they'd best not tell me :P
-Who and whom... though this is less of an issue in informal English.
-Irregardless. Don't ever do that. Ever.
-
I had no idea that this thread was actually about the grammar inquisition arresting people.
I guess that explains why it's Goober in the picture.
-
-Affect and effect. Effect = noun. Affect = verb.

I prefered it when he was called Gooby ;)
-

Hehe =) Only problem is, the comic is using it improperly. Effect is only a verb when used with an object. "The situation" in that sentence doesn't really qualify (depending on meaning; I suppose you could be extremely obscure and say that it brings "the situation" into existence but that's a really archaic/obsolete form, beyond simply obscure). That sentence should actually use affect. Now, you could say "Our foreign policy has effected a change in the situation" and be entirely correct.
Obscure grammatical references aside, the affect/effect thing really gets on my nerves, though then/than still tops the list :P
-
I doubt that that's actually Goob. No name, no info, just some guy with a nametag that says "Goober". there could be dozens of people with a pair of coveralls with "Goober" on them. The only confirmation we can get is from Goob himself.
-
Somehow I don;t think Goober got a master's degree in CS to become a janitor... :)
-
I was going to post something about him being too smart or whatever, but I wasn't sure where or what he worked at.
