Just got a new 8800 GT OC, but when I try to load either fs2 or fred it takes all eternity to load. The process just sits there eating up 50% of the cpu. After nearly a minute or so it finally switches video modes and starts running. Whats going on?
-
I got an 8800 GTS and i don't get any of that..but maybe it's because i got GTS and not GT?
-
Which vid card did you have before? Did you uninstall its drivers properly?
-
Yup, i used Driver cleaner pro to nuke all the old ati drivers. I don't think it affects DirectX games, as Sims2 runs perfectly, and gorgeous too :eek2:

Try disabling the nvsvc service in the background. As far as I can tell, it serves no purpose and just uses up memory. I ran into that exact issue a year ago with this and some other games, and this solved it.
-
Sorry, made no difference.
Edit: think I found the cause, for some dumb reason i've got 0 length VP files. Dunno why something was turning some of my vp files into empty files. :wtf:

Heh. Funny that, neh?
A GT has no problems with much of anything, which is why I took the chance to get 2 of them.
-
Luckily I had already uploaded the vp's to the ftp, otherwise i'd be rather annoyed. LOL

Apparently you would have been better off getting two 3870s than two GTs. And you'd be helping the Canadian economy.

Well considering AMD is an US company :P
-
I thought that you were from Europe like the rest of the WCS team!
-
Nope, me american.... :)
-
You talk like one. :p

3870's would passably manage to give an original GTS a run for it's money, there is no way it's going to touch a GT.
And considering that the GT and 3870 are roughly the same price, I'm still happy to have gotten my GT's.
