My newest project :)
gonna try to build a HTL version of the GTT Argos, seeing no one has made an attempt to create one.
Thinking of doing full UV map and texture model.
So far it's kinda low poly, only started today... Some parts front doesn't look right, front of the ship looks messy.
Will try to fix that tomorrow.

Any thoughts perhaps?
Hay forks?
Ominous fires for me to burn on? :P

it looks a bit to rounded, thats all.
Damnit, makes me wish again i wasn't so lazy so i can learn modeling.
-
Download sketchup. easiest modeling program that exists IMO
-
yeah but i'd probably be to lazy to make anything. I want something but half my mind doesen't. thats how it is.
but you do not need to talk to me about that, or you will inevitably get into a very long, boring and depressing argument.

Very true  so I spent the day "boxing" it abit , adjusting front and general shape. The behind of it doesn't look right as it is now.
Hopefully soon I can start on adding details and engine.

Not too shabby!
Personally, I've always felt that the Argo won the FS2 Ugly Broken Spaceborn Masonry Award, but it's good to see that you are makining it pesentable.
I'd like to see the final model with docking paths for all of the apparent hatches on the model, not to mention a better defined bridge area more in line with the older FS1 style ships, but then I generally prefer FS1 Terran designs to the random chunky look :v: adopted in the sequel for larger Terran ships. The gun turrets look perhaps a tad small however this is not really a bad thing, since the Argo is not intended for combat anyway.
Keep up the good work!
-
Might we see normal maps on it also (the new mediavps rules)

thanks :)
I dunno about the FS1 like command bridge since I very much doubt if it would look good, but you never know before you'll tried it.

Perhaps, if I can find how to create one that is. :p
3th update :I'm done with the main shape of the ship and did engines and just started on creating details. ( my favorite part! :p ) I believe the front and right side is somewhat done, might change stuff as it goes on.
Any thoughts/constructive opinions?

give it some spikey comunication/sensor thingys coming out of that little 45 degree angle thing above the primary dock.

thanks for the input, I was wondering on what to use that face for. :)
Update 4:

Looks great so far. :)
A few minor points:
1) It looks like you've extruded each face on the engine nozzles. It's a good look, but much better suited to normal mapping because of the high poly count it requires for very tiny visible changes.
2) A lot of other places there are very shallow recesses - I'd recommend making them deeper and more pronounced for maximum effect. :)
3) I suspect you're still working on this bit, but that front face needs more antennas. :D
And I have no idea what that pipe greeble is under the main port, but it looks great. Moar!

I don't think so... How many frigging antennas do you need on transport anyway?
All I'm saying, don't get on a spree with those things... I think one or two would be enought, maybe three.
-
As always though: form over function. ;)
If it looks good, do it. If not, don't. Simple as can be.
-
at a minimum three major ones.
-
I'm at a point where the model looks about finished now, still there's the question about textures which I don't have the motivation to do right now. maybe next week or something.
Changes I've done : completed parts under and detail for engine part. Added a extra antenna and made them a bit bigger. The engine nozzle stays as they are ( not gonna give them up yet Vasudan Admiral :p )
Now I need a break...

Oh I forgot to say that, FireCrack made an awesome HTL Argo, but he never released and he is now inactive.
EDIT: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,38064.0.html
Oddgrim you might find some inspiration from that model.

Thanks Hades
I'm gonna take a look and well get started again :)
edit: strange that nothing turned up when did a search before I started modeling.

I did a search to find it before, and found nothing the same...
Oh and no problem.

Don't know if there is much more to add.
any suggestions?

Why not try to make a replica of FireCrack's Argo, then at more details; like 2 versions?
EDIT:Omg FireCrack was online yesterday.
I might PM him to see if he will give me the Argo.
-
Because that would be twice as much work. ;)
It's already quite hard to rebuild [v] ships nicely - even moreso to rebuild a rebuild of a [v] ship. :p
As for changes I'd still suggest deepening the recesses. As is those ones there are definitely still in normal mapping territory.
-
How about separating and putting HTL-like-Deimos stuff on the flat side of the bottom picture? Like what FireCrack did.

VA: What? deepen them even more? I think they're already deep enough.
Snail: Thanks , I've added them to the sides and splitted the top pices in two.

Those things look like good places to put glowpoints too. ;)

agree
update:
Started uvmapping and texturing the top texture is only temporary. Planning to use a mix of stock and possibly self made textures in finished model.
Current size on map : 2048x4096 (will half map when I'm done.)
