Title: Glitch with The King's Gambit
Post by: kdssrugby on January 07, 2008, 11:04:05 pm
Hi, I looked everywhere but couldn t find anyone else with this problem. I am trying to play "The King's Gambit" mission where you fly the Artemis bomber and have to destroy the blockade runners. My problem is that under weapons loadout you cannot see, let alone select the cyclops missiles, they have been replaced with rockeyes. I tried running the game with mediavps and without, but it s the same everytime and without the missiles, the mission is impossible to beat.Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

edit: I looked at the post below mine (duh) and it seems it s a corrupted pilot, damn.

Yes.

But even if you make a new pilot, you can unlock all the missions in the techroom and play from there.

Yes. Ctrl + Shift + S in the Mission simulator makes that happen, though it's not the same to start playing the missions that way. But the other option is to start over. Karajorma has a modified campaign file but it starts way later than where you are going now.

I'll make one starting at King's Gambit later today.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/Downloads/CampaignRestarts/SM2-04-FromTheKing'sGambit.zip

Download and unzip that to your Freespace2\Data\Missions folder and start the game with a new pilot. Once you've finished the game delete the file it installed (FreeSpace2.fc2).

Thnx a lot, it beats having to replay all those missions.

What causes corruption of pilot files, anyway?

It's a bug in FS2_Open. It's been fixed a long time actually from what I understand. 3.6.10 should work fine IIRC.

Huzzah! What actually causes them, though? Kills registered for homebrew ships?

I just encountered this issue in 3.6.10

I had taken a break from playing through retail campaign to play Blue Planet and came back later without restarting the campaign- all Cyclops are replaced with Rockeyes and nowhere to be found.

edit: the bug persists in subsequent missions

You've just shown why you shouldn't take a break mid-campaign unless you create a new pilot for it.

Fortunately King's Gambit is one of the ones I have a campaign restart file for.

1) Restart the campaign and quit FS2
2) Download and extract this file (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/Downloads/CampaignRestarts/SM2-04-FromTheKing%27sGambit.zip) to Data\Missions.
3) Run the game and restart the campaign again
4) Once you've finished, delete the Freespace2.fc2 file from Data\Missions so that you can play from the start of the game again.
