Title: WC Saga fly by cinematics question.
Post by: Gun_Ship on January 11, 2008, 02:23:15 am
Well I have another Fred 2 editor question for you guys.  I've edited the autopilot template and replaced the longbows with dragons but when the auto pilot is activated the cinematic still shows longbows.  I'm wondering if someone could tell me what event in the events tree determines what ships you see in the cinematic because, I've look through the entire event tree and I can't figure it out?

replace Nav Proxy 1-4 with Dragons. Longbows are assigned by default.

Thanks Tolwyn but how do i do that?   Do I just edit the data and replace the word proxy with dragon?

Select the Nav Proxy ships. Open the Ships Editor (Shift + S) in the ship class pull down it will say Longbow. Change this to Dragon.

Have you, uh, tried to select a ship?

Yes I have and I've already changed the ships on the map.  Also all (shift + S) does is move me down the events tree.

You are doing it the wrong way! You have to select nav proxies (and not entries in the event editor, which are nothing more but referencies to the actual object). Really, you should read the FRED tutorial first. It covers such basics. :)

I did read the FRED tutorial but, no where does it say that for fly by cinematics in WC Saga you must select the physical nav proxy, not the event entry, in order to set what ships you will see, anyway the cinematics are working now so thanks.  That aside I've now got a new problem, the dragons when they reach the end of the flight deck hit something and then start to crash in to the ceiling, and then in to the deck over and over again.  I've given them a full 1.0 clearance above the deck and moved them, as far as possible, to the front of the carrier but it still happens. So any suggestions?

don't use the scripted cinematics :D

set the "use autopilot cinematics" flag on a blank mission and use the "set-nav-carry" sexp (like beam-free-all) on the ships you want to autopilot

viola!

Yes, works very well for fighters. Caps may misbehave though. Oh, and you will need latest builds (see Recent Builds forum)

Thanks but I think I'll stick to the scripted cinematics for the minute, the other method seems a bit to complicated for me at the moment.  I think I'll build this mission from scratch rather then building it off the auto piloted template I think thats the best solution to my current problem.

I absolutely would love to use this in my missions - unfortunately I cannot find a WORKING download link, even in the Recent Builds section (which is hell to navigate, by the way). Sorry... I don't mean to sound irritated, I just love the thought of having a check box eliminate my Nav hassles.

pick up one of taylor Xt builds. They are in the recent builds section. Latest official version is 1207, it is, however, not linked in the recent builds forum.

Hm... I'm guessing that you have to start with a blank mission, and cannot just click the box on a mission you've already been working with, right?

FRED should be backwards compatible. You should be able to load and work with your mission in a more recent FRED build.

However you can't go back sometimes. So once you've saved your mission it can only be played by people using the same build as you or a newer one (Which means most WCS fans won't be able to play it until the multiplayer patch comes out most likely)

It worked in my older WCS build without issue... but the cinematics didn't work. I'll post again when I create a new mission from scratch.

Okay... so I've started a new mission and the autopilot cinematics still don't work. Do I have to wait for a new build of WCS? Or am I doing something wrong?

Don't suppose you could leak one out?

Okay okay... I'll wait.  :doubt:

Um... I did. Maybe I'm not being clear...

So I downloaded one of those builds, and now have the "use autopilot cinematics" button available to me. I use it... but to no avail. In game, it still just uses time-compression autopilot.

you have to use FS Open build from the archive, not the one shipped with wCS

I did. Entirely different version that I'm running than the one that shipped with WCS.

this build should work.. i just posted it working on debugging some problems with autopilot

http://www.ferrium.org/media/fs2_open_3_6_9r_apslidefix-20080203.zip

it's not one of taylor's XT buids though so it's missing all the features that taylor doesn't check into svn for half-years at a time

This one worked quite nicely. Thanks!
