Title: Crazy Electronica Track
Post by: blackhole on January 13, 2008, 01:50:27 am
Hey jr2! You wanted an upbeat track, so here you go! :P (Linked to newgrounds this time so people don't have problems downloading)

Through The Snowfall (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/116878)

I didn't actually make it for jr2, it just so happened to be upbeat. I made all the synths in this one :D

Oooook, hyper electronica songs are not apparently the genre of choice here...

Hmm...I wouldn't exactly call it hyper, unless if by hyper you mean chaotic and frenzied. Even a frenzy needs something to keep the momentum going. Sure the melody is going all over the place, but there's nothing driving the song. The arpeggioed part from 1:14 sounds promising and builds up nicely, but then falls flat again. It just needs that extra something to help propel it along.

If I could offer a suggestion, there's a really good preset in Sytrus called Improvised Bongos, which I sometimes use as an extra hihat layer to drive the song along. I've used it in two of my most "hyper" tracks: this (http://darius.rabidcarrot.com/darius/Darius-Darius-For%20You%20I%20Will%20(Darius%20Rave%20Mix).mp3) and this (http://darius.rabidcarrot.com/darius/Darius-None-Gods%20Children.mp3). If you don't use that preset specifically, some extra fast percussion in the background would help give it that "hyper" feeling.

Other than that, maybe some speeded-up breakbeats in the background to fill it up a bit, which will help bassdrum drive the song rather than plod sedately along as it seems to be doing at the moment.

Hmmm, I guess I was a little skimpy on the percussion. I'm always skimpy on the percussion! Of course, I never actually intended this to be hyper, per say, I just thought it turned out kinda crazy. Apparently, it didn't :P

I think there's some interesting stuff in it. Personally, I'd cut out the part between 00:53..01:15. And maybe add a part with slower tempo, starting from the current 01:25 spot.
Or something.

Removing the part between :53 and 1:15 would cause the song to move forward too fast, IMHO. Adding a part with a slower tempo might work, but the entire point of the song was to keep a fast-paced, consistent feel throughout. Besides, I hate changing tempos :P

If there's one thing I miss, it's having time to do my music :(
