Truespace is really starting to get on my nerves  . If I don't do everything exactly correct (and I'm not sure what this is sometimes), it completely removes the textures from my model. Recently it did this and I saved without realizing it, so I am left with a useless SCN file and a semi-complete POF file. I have tried repeatedly to use the POF file, converting it to COB and editing in TrueSpace, but whenever I try to re-import it into PCS2 it has no textures. Unless I can find a successful way of doing this, I will have to redo the grouping almost from scratch, which includes 57 turrets and numerous other meshes, and going through that once was almost more than I could handle. If someone knows a way I could get this thing back into TrueSpace without destroying the textures, the help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and also, if anyone knows how to control smoothing in TrueSpace, that is also something I have had trouble with.

I have no answer to your question. Why? Simply because their is none. Truespace has decided you can't have a texture so you can't, no matter how hard you try. You might as well give up now. The great and mighty Truespace has spoken. It's word is law. It doesn't need a reason to act like a complete and utter piece of crap, it just does. Your not doing anything wrong, it has just decided to screw you up the @$$. It doesn't need a reason for that either, it can be as contradictory, infuriating, confusing, messed up and frustrating as it damn well wants and you can't do squat about it. That's just the way it works I'm afraid. All your work has gone to waste now, I can understand how you feel. No ship for you. No ship for you EVER. It just does this to some people and some people it doesn't for no explainable or accountable reason. Don't try to find the logic. There is none. Give up. Truespace has you by the balls. Learn to let go.
Okay maybe not but DAMN I h8 truespace!

Did you try psc1?
Also put the pof and texture int he same dir then save your cob in there... Technically you SHOULD have mappage saved then, when you reverse engineer cobs I used to have the stripped texture problem.

Blowfish: Yeah truespaz has all kinds of infuriating bugs. To know which one in particular we're dealing with, could you post the cob/scn and all associated textures? Also, which version are you using?

I am using TrueSpace 3.2 (the free one). Okay here is everything in one package: click (http://pages.sbcglobal.net/joey.wong/Thanatos.zip). Sorry its contents are a bit messy. The original SCN that got corrupted is test2.scn, the semi-working POF is test2a.pof, not sure all the textures are named correctly, there are so many because I renamed them all at some point, and yes, I know that the model is rotated 90 degrees (one of the things i need to fix in TrueSpace).
EDIT:Link fixed

Or, like the ship creation guide (http://underworld.fortunecity.com/pacman/106/fs2mods/shipcreationguide/creatingyourmodelusingts.html) so eloquently says:
The trueSpace GUI was designed by a monkey on space crack. Bear this in mind and you'll live a happier life. Don't try to reason as to why it is the way it is. Merely accept it and suffer. Icons on the main toolbar are split into groups. There are two toolbars. A large one and a small one. At any one time you will only see one icon from a each group on it's toolbar. This is an on-going theme in trueSpace. Features are hidden away and very difficult to find.
Truespace makes baby Jesus frakking furious and unforgiving.

The download link is a bit broken there. ;)

That monkey better hope I never find him ... or his space crack.
I fixed the link, should work now.

Ok, I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to do here - convert the POF to COB, make some changes and then reconvert from COB to POF? If so then I suspect that your problem is simply texture formats and names.
TS chucks a hissy fit when it can't find the exact texture it's looking for and assigns a default white texture to all the missing ones - which effectively merges them into one.
You should have DDS versions of all the appropriate textures for this ship for in-game usage (If not, and you really are using jpgs and stuff in-game, you need to read this. (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,37158.0.html)). Take these DDS versions and make BMP copies of the base textures (don't bother with any glow, shine or normal maps), keeping the exact same names. Put these in a folder with the newly converted COB and try opening it up in TS again. If it still refuses to find the textures, try putting them in the textures folder in the root TS install directory.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, I know about the DDS thing, I was just using JPEG because it is easier to work with, and I had planned to convert to DDS eventually. I will try converting them to BMP and see how that turns out.

Done...
Well except fro ONE little problem, you didn't include the Beam4 texture so hopefully the material slot is still valid. I loaded it up in TS3.2 and it has textures...
I simply loaded the pof into pcs1 and saved as cob in same folder as textures and changed your textures to bmp.
here is the .cob
I hope it's the way you wanted...

Working with JPGs? :ick:
